Senior List
I wouldn’t have a clue how to coach a team – never played footy – and I’ll admit I’m not too au fait with strategies and stuff (Einstein I ain’t) – but then again, I doubt many here would either if put to the test.
So with what Danny has to work with, and with the added variables of trying to match up opposition players with a team decimated by injury to half a dozen senior players without much to call on from the reserves, would be a pretty hard job. Lots of calls bagging him for moving Holland too late last week – hindsight is good when a move like that comes off. So I’m not gonna bag Danny for that – would be a nightmare for any coach I think working with that group, especially when half the team are just not up to playing senior AFL football. Even some of our better players are just plain lazy – I can’t blame Danny for that either. Maybe he’s not the coach for us, but I still can’t overlook what he’s got to work with.
My only problem with Danny is he doesn’t seem to be coping. He looked a mess on Talking Footy the other day. I just wonder if he has strength of character to get him through what are going to be pretty trying times for the club over the next couple of years. It’s not going to get better for a couple of years – I’d say much worse once they go through the list and delist, as well as retirements etc. If they go the right way and do a total restructure of the list – and do it properly by trading for early draft selections, and quality trading of players from other clubs to fill key position deficiencies, there’s going to be a lot of young kids on our list,
And Danny’s history with young kids isn’t good. He sits them on the bench for half a season, bringing them on for a couple of minutes a game and then drops them the following week. They may as well play in the 2s if that’s the case – at least they’d get ground time. No wonder some of our kids haven’t come on – I can’t see how he sees this as beneficial for their development – psychologically and growth as a player.
I know Miller has faith in him – I hope that’s not just because he’s a nice guy – because we’re dealing with the future of our club in its most crucial time since the early ‘90s.
