Been reading a few threads of late both on this board and on Bay 13, and it seems there are some here who continue to deny our chances of making this year our year. Although none of you are keen to see fans talking up our chances, we (myself included) were all too keen to crucify them after round 1... Remember the dark days? It all seemed lost after the Bulldogs game. :thumbsd:

I never over-reacted to the Bull dogs game. Given our past season (2006), I can understand why people were cynical at the start of the year. But we have all moved on from then and maybe so should you. ;)

Bay 13 is hardly full of insightful discussion so why would anyone listen to the crap people are posting there.

Hahah you're like the only one who didn't have the chopping block out. Full respect. Can't say the same for Jess though.

Trust me, if it was only due to 2006 it wouldn't be that bad. But my "dark days" with the Geelong Football Club go right back to 1986. You don't become this bitter and cynical after 1 year believe me.

And also the not-so-good 70's and '82-83 were not a lot of chop either. But we all live in hope, and the way we are playing now and the game style seems to be what is required in September. Let's just enjoy the ride and hope we are spared any nasty injuries. Someone posted a thread where it was probably 1991, 1993 and 1997 where we had our best chance.

Indeed, the what-ifs of those years were...if Poole's long shot wasn't touched late in the last quarter of the 2nd Semi(Or D.Jarman's miracle left-foot snap from the boundary minutes earlier wasn't a goal!). If Geelong snuck into 6th place in 1993, ie by not losing to sides like Melbourne, St.Kilda etc that year, or if Geelong managed to beat Sydney by say 10 goals in the last round of 1997, to finish top and avoid the Carey-led Kangaroos in a night MCG final. That was a crucial bit of percentage that season, difference between playing a poor Lions (10-12) in 8th or the dangerous Kangaroos in 7th.

Mate, you need to lighten up a touch!
tell you what, before next Firday night over a beer at my bar I will offer you my professional counselling services free of charge - lets get to the root cause of your cynciism and exercise those demons, hey?
healthy scepticism is good - but yours is bordering on downright suicidal tendencies!!!

Its a hard road. Never get comfortable.
Too young to get to the G in 63. Made it to the packed stadium in 67 only to get my first dose of depression. In W.A. in the 80's and couldn't get to the game but was sure a cup was not far away. The Ponsford was the place to watch the 92 ,94 defeats with a foundation member of the Weagles. Spoilt his day both times by threatening suicide.
In 95 I couldn't raise the spirit to go to the game. By half time i had given up and was tiling tiling the back yard. Only later did I hear hear the blues had cheated. This did not help the pain.
Dark days? you bet. I now live in Myrtleford. If, this time,we go all the way I will have my sleeping bag in Moorabool st. for the first half of October.

Anyone want to join me?
