i agree thrawn, we need a lot of pace. and Clarke can get the ball ive seen him play some good games. last year he was averaging about 17 touches a game, with a better coach and to work on his kicking i think he can turn into a very good player.
especially seeing as we will get him cheap

Just had a look on the GFC website, apparently had the 2nd highest amount of disposals - 2nd to Cameron Ling.
I agree, Pagan will hopefully turn him around.
may see him as a "Brent Harvey" type of player.
I mean when Harvey won that EJ medal 5 or 6 years ago, i think all of the footy world thought - What the F***.
I'm hoping Pagan see's some of that fella in clarke, they seem similar types.

excuse me thought I just saw Clarke and very good player in the same sentence without not in front of it.
Clarke is a true piece of crap.

I dont really mind getting Clarke down at carlton, he cant be any worse then what we already have down there!

I think Pagan wants TOUGH players to help out the softies like Campo and Murphy.

Has anything been said about what we are ganna give up for these guys?

Third-round draft pick. And I'll be very satisfied with such a trade, which could then be on-traded to West Coast in exchange for David Haynes, thus, leaving us (Geelong) with our second-round draft pick.

Clarke will be very handy, providing you can 1) Put up with his kicking, and 2) teach him how to kick properly ;)

And BTW, when you say you need pace, David Clarke isn't as speedy as you think, nor as every Geelong supporter makes him out to be.

Cheers.

I don't care if we recruit Matt Shirvington as long as I can finally see someone who can actualy take the opposition on with his pace. We have been watching The likes of Jim Plunkett, Anthony Franchina and Simon Fletcher run around like old moles for far too long.

And what do those three players do with the ball if they are able to win a possession?

Yes they turn the bloody thing over.

Clarke will do fine for the time being!

Neither of them proven ball winners.

Clarke can get his hands on the thing - thats a start.
agreed on the Jimmy P, Fletch & Franga comment, those 3 must be delisted, perhaps Fletch the only one with a change of resurrecting himself to that of a 5/10 footballer who will do us for 1 more year till we can get more picks & trade for more players.

The world has gone completley ****ing mad.

First it was the dogs with Street and now you guys with Clarke.

I especially liked this quote, although I think I may have it a little out of context?

As a Geelong fan, I have seen Clark play many times. And can tell you that he knows how to find the ball but makes the worst desicions ever. His skills are shocking but worse he has no idea what to do in certain situations.

But he will be a solid player for you, without a dought i can say that because he is tough, runs all day, and can break open a game. A player Pagan could turn around.

VP,

Pagan doesn't need a player who needs too many footy smarts. The Pagan philosophy is to win the ball, if you can run with it do so otherwise kick it long into the forward line. We really need some pace from the half back line and some one who can run the lines.

Though saying that, our forwards were really let down by bad disposals from our midfield. I think picking up Scotland, Johnson and Harford which have good disposals, and also release Campo will be released more into the midfield, we will have some good delivery to our forwards.

The advatage of this trade (IE Beauy Vs Clarke.. both have bad disposals and haven't got too many footy smarts, but Clarke is 4 years younger and has a lot more pace).

Never in dispute all of that. However, Clarke never kicked 8 in a half. Or a year.:)

Clarke's greatest asset is not, despite the hype, his pace.

Clarke is (when at peak fitness) a remarkable endurance athlete.
He is fast enough but his plus is that he can keep running more or less non-stop, hence his occasional apprearance up in the goalsquare 40 metres clear to receive a pass, having left an opponent panting further up field. If Pagan can teach him precisely when to run off his man, Clarke could kick 30-40 goals next year, mostly from close range.

Or, he could crash into Whitnall accidentally and fracture Whitnall's lower vertebrae, thus ruining Carlton's season. Either way, it's gonna be exciting!
