Prismall, DJ for starters.

:( MEAN! You could at least explain why...

Congrats DJ on a solid effort. I was so excited when I heard he was finally going to get a game. Every week in the VFL he has shown his consistency and that he is still suitable for senior level. To have guys like DJ and Pris walk straight in just shows how amazing or depth is. Is DJ just 26?

are u serious?

1 bad game and your all over players, i hope that was sarcasm coz the amount of geelong supporters i heard bagging our own players was ridiculous. were suppose to be supporters not baggers

That was a high pressure finals type game and Hunt typically did not stand up to it at all. He must be the worst contested or uncontested hand ball in the team, his short passes by foot were disgusting, he gave opponents far too much room (he is not Harley or Milburn so he should not be doing it like they do) and imo he was squibbing out of contests in the air again.

Look he will usually be pretty handy and has had a reasonable year but against Hawthorn he will struggle. With the way they set up, his medium to long kicks out of defense (which are excellent) are not possible and we must run and hand ball quickly to get through it.

How frustrating. The posts on here sometimes are just ridiculous. Hunt is a massive unit, put him up against someone slighter in foot, and weighing a good 10kgs less in muscle I know who is going to run rings around who.

Don't you think the coaches know this and accept a loss on the ground?

Going back to the OP, I think DJ did ok. Wasn't too bad, I think the 50m penalty was a little soft, considering the Hawks constantly held onto Bartel every mark he took. However that is the umpires interpretation, which changes with the three different umps out there.

Would like to see him have more of a chance, however there is just no room. Unfortunate as he puts his body on the line without comprimise, something I like about him.

I was going to start a similar thread.

He's actually a very solid AFL level player. Rarely makes mistakes, good skills and hard at it. Didn't appreciate the 50m penalty he gave away but on a whole it was a solid game. Unfortunately for him, only with further injuries will he retain his place.

Just another example of our depth and that can only be a good thing.

Throws himself at too many contests and goes to ground way too often.

Very soft as Rioli didn't actually hold the mark so you can't blame DJ for thinking it might be called play on.

Exactly. All the holding was done between Rioli dropping the ball, and the umpire blowing the whistle to pay the mark. Ump was wrong, Johnson was stiff. I'm not holding that against him.

Agreed. You wouldn't want to be relying on him every week, and I thought he butchered it a bit, but he did some good things. I think he'll probably move on at the end of the year though. At a bunch of other teams - Hawks included - he'd probably be a starter every week.

dave johnson had a good game to come in to the team after all this time and play well,in a pressure cooker game thats just ace.He really should be keeping hunt honest hunt has stuffed up a few times in last few weeks, and we all say give prismall a go oh he's only young he needs time etc l like the the kid but he really has not stood up,good work d jonho go nude nuts

Always been an admirer of DJ's approach to it - WILL DIE for the team. His hardness stands out in a team that doesn't lack hard types. That said, Hunt almost had me converted this year after I've been a big knocker in the past. DJ can have his spot because Hunt undid it all last night, for me. Looked terrrrified on a couple of occasions. DJ might not warrant the DK role (maybe Dash?), but Hunt's kick-out efforts last night were appalling. If he can kick it ceiling height over 60 metres, why doesn't he just do that, a lot?

Won't really work against Hawthorn and the cluster. Or anyone that has a number of players a kick behind the ball.

l remember they stopped big benny graham from doing his big roosted from kick in's it was becoming to predictable and yes hunt's kicking in was very poor last night

Just remembered something about DJ, after the game on 774 he was interviewed, they asked him what he had learned from his incident at the end of last year (in grand final week, where he was arrested), he said "basically not to be a d***head". Seemed to have a very good attitude and be grateful to even be getting a game.

(wrote d***head because the word itself is apparently censored! seems pretty mild to me?)

**** yeah!

Whenever I think of this bloke I think of that ripping tackle he laid on Aka at the MCG in the finals in 2004. We owned that game but couldn't convert late in the game to save our lives. Amazing what a difference a functioning forward line can make.
