Re: David King's "How to Beat Collingwood" (Part III)

You seem to be intimating that Buckley has a decent chance of succeeding because there are others around him to water down his influence. This may be the case. However, it now becomes a money issue and not so much a Buckley issue.

It takes guts to do what Buckley has done. It is allot easier to take a team that is struggling rather than take a team that has won a premiership or possibly 2. The way it stands ATM if Collingwood were to win this year’s premiership than if he were to coach the team to a 3rd straight premiership others will be saying that the team was in auto pilot and that anyone could have coached them. If He were to be unsuccessful at winning Collingwood a 3rd straight premiership then in the wider football world he has failed.

History tells us that is on hiding to nothing as there has been very few teams that have won 3 premierships in a row in the history of the game. Only one team has managed that feat in the past 50 odd years and they had more money than the rest of the teams to retain players.

There have been some inroads into Collingwood game plan this season so it would be fair to say that the gap has narrowed. Time will tell how long it will take before someone comes up with something better or if Collingwood can keep tweaking the game plan to avoid being caught by other teams.

Re: David King's "How to Beat Collingwood" (Part III)

The Collingwood game plan stacks up against every team in the AFL hence why other teams are trying to copy it. Teams such as Carlton, West Coast, and Essendon have made the greatest advances into the tactics and all these teams are currently in the 8. Two of these teams are vying for top 4 spots. The beauty about our game plan is that we have taken it to another level this season, so the teams currently using it are a season behind in the intricate details required to make their press just as effective.
Our press on the surface is not as effective as last season but that is mainly to do with the fact that other teams are mindful of our pressure and are kicking the ball more out of defence rather than running it like they did last season. People like David King need to be respectful of the fact that we developed this game style so our team would have the best idea as to how to counter the press as well. Even the best of kicking teams will break down at some stage like Hawthorn did last week. At times they were hitting the target up to 10 times in a row, but it only takes one stray kick and were away.

Why is this a response to me, what has it got to do with anything I've said?

6. Beams, Dids, Caff & Johnno all best 22 for this year.

David King's "Beat Collingwood" Part XIX

Yes, my old buddy is at it again, so stay tuned to AFL 360 for Kingy's insight into beating the Pies one more time. With the Saints amazing effort to be 6 goals behind and kick 3 in junk time with 2 Pies off the ground and coming off consecutive short weeks to make the final margin 19 points, Kingy has thrown forward yet another insight into how to beat the mighty black and white.
Apparently it's so simple, win the clearances. But Kingy is smarter than that, it's not just win clearances it's go 3rd man up smack it clear and run on to it in open space.

Well, well, sounds full proof, I don't think we'll be able to handle the Saints next time with that powerful insight you've provided again David K. I marvel once more at your 19th theory. Well done, time to go coach Port for you.

Re: David King's "Beat Collingwood" Part XIX

Why he isn't yet a premiership winning senior coach is beyond me.

Re: David King's "Beat Collingwood" Part XIX

These threads are quite entertaining.:thumbsu:

I would have thought he'd have added play on whenever possible, take risks, dispose of the ball accurately, clunk your marks, don't miss any tackles and don't let them kick any goals. Surely that will do it.

Yes, Kingy, yes!

Oh my buddy, you didn't let me down. From the lofty heighers of AFL 360 you once again spew forth the way to beat the Pies, 3rd man up! Yes, Saints got so close, 6 goals down when Pies shut up shop. Oh forgot to say Mr. King, Hawks did this too, let me check the result, oh 9 goal win to the Pies. Ouch!

Myth busted.

Haha.

The floor in his plan though, is the main challengers, if we can call them that, all have decent to good ruckman that win their share of taps, with ploddish midfields that we can exploit with our fleet of foot spreaders.
Cats: Ottens, Selwood, Bartel, Ling & Corey
carlton: Warnock/Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy, Simpson?, Robinson
Hawthorn: Bailey, Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis
West Coast: Cox/Niknat, Priddis, Kerr, Selwoods

Re: David King's "Beat Collingwood" Part XIX

I like Kings theory but it has been tried before. What’s more the 3rd player up also leaves you vulnerable in that you have committed an extra player to go up which means that you have one less player down to win the next contest.

This tactic can be easily stopped as the 3rd player up usually comes from the back of the ruck contest which means that if the tactic was starting to hurt us you could assign a player to mind that space and bloke any attempts for a player to come over the top.

If I not wrong I think this was Kingy's 11th ...

"How to beat Collingwood methods, gameplans and tactics" by D. King.

Amount of sales to date : NIL

I start to laugh when GW turned to him and said something like "You want to talk about Collingwood and how to beat them"

I'm watching 360 now
Was cackling when Captain Spud Kingy did the how to beat Pies rant.
How does he get so much media time. He is non entertaining and douchey.
:)
3rd man up.....what's next ....kick more goals...get more inside 50s...yadda yadda

He was quick to diss Dawes coming back this week, so I'm guessing Dawes will be back this week..

Third man up worked really effectively in dimishing Jolly's influence in last years drawn grand final. As someone already pointed out, playing third man up is more used to hide your own sides weakness and other than Hawthorn all our other sides are pretty strong in the ruck. The other thing is that it was nowhere as effective in the GF2 because we were ready for it, and I'd expect us to adapt to it pretty will if it happens now that we have played against it.

Here's the plan on how to stop us:-

Deploy a precision sniper on the top of the southern stand with 22 silver bullets and snipe our boys 20 seconds before the first bounce....yep that should do it.

If it comes down to tactics and fair play to beat us, that aint gonna happen!

I thought these were only required when facing monsters... ooohhhhhhh. I see. Yep, silver bullets necessary - make sure someone tells Kingy before he suggests it on 360; he might f*ck up this theory as well otherwise! ;)
