Re: David Myer's secret tip

No, the thing is that the apostrophe after the s, without an s after it, indicates that there are two of him. We know there are not, that's why it's s apostrophe s... FWIW I think it looks better with one s too. I hate grammar, it's used by the wealthy to perpetuate social difference. Let's get back to footy.

I haven't seen much of Myers and I certainly didn't realise he was that built. I saw the game against Freo in Subiaco last year and only remember him running off half back once. I think he'd been tagging Chris Mayne? I don't recall him being too effective though... Mayne kicked two. I hope Myers gets a run in the NAB cup. Does he kick well?

...my partner just told me that we're obviously all bored and that we should go and have sex with our wives and girlfriends:)

I'm still sure that you don't need another s to indicate ownership, but you never know. I've always thought that the apostrophe was context dependent in that situation.

You're spot on with the Freo game, he was going with Mayne and just didn't have a good day all round. The Adelaide game was his best in my opinion, kicked a crucial goal and had some pretty critical possessions.

Your partner seems to have the right idea, unfortunately mine's about a 24 hour flight away.

V Fremantle was his last game of the year. Was troubled by the stress reaction in his foot, in addition to being sidelined in the 2nd quarter with a broken nose courtesy of Chris Tarrants knee.

I thought his best game was V Carlton.

Re: David Myer's secret tip

Took your advice but got a knock back.

Guess I'll just stay online. Maybe I should go to Lance's party for some action.

Is it Lance's or Lances' or Lances's. I'm confused.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

It's 'Lance's', because there is no s on the end. I think there's only one young lady at Lance's. At least she's into footy:thumbsu:

I have to say this again because the debate is still going. "David Myers's secret tip" is NOT correct punctuation because Myers ends with a single s.

You only need another s after the apopstrophe if the word ends with a double s. Refer to my reply several posts earlier to get the full explanation.

This is the correct way I can assure you!

Didn't he go off at half time with an injury? I'm quite sure this is the game he injured his foot.

Agree about the Adelaide game - the passage of play which led to his goal was just about as good as it gets from a first year player - clearance, follow-up contested possession and then goal.

Anyone who doubted Myers' ability to play in the middle should re-watch that play and/or game.

kid is a freak. He will do great things for you blokes

Nope. It's wrong.

Re: David Myer's secret tip

Nope, I'm right. 'David Myers' is the singular form of the word. To make it possessive it still needs an apostrophe s after the word, even if it ends in s.

The correct grammar is "David Myers's finger is missing."

You are technically correct according to the textbooks but generally an apostrophe s in that situation isn't as accepted anymore and it's rare to see it used in print media these days. So as such, leaving it off isn't a 'mistake' but a choice.

Still hasn't done anything for mine.

I've watched the likes of Palmer and Rioli show serious talent at AFL level. Zeibell and Rich at NAB level.

Plenty of others have shown as much as he has - Ebert, Vespremi, Ward, Mayne, etc, etc

I'm a little concerned as to where he'll fit in the scheme of things. Is he a mid or will he be a half back.

Maybe you should re-watch Essendon vs Adelaide R10 and Essendon vs Carlton R13

Palmer and Rioli fair enough, but your using NAB Cup games to prove a point now? Lol...

Yeah, so? Those players mentioned are very good players in their own right.

Why is there a sudden expectation of young players immediately walk in and start dominating? It isn't realistic.

He'll spend time in both areas...what is the big deal? It's fantastic we've got a player who can be equally as good in different positions.

Honestly, give the bloke a chance! The kid hasn't even played a game this year and your already starting to fret because you've seen some other young players from other teams play well in a mickey-mouse competition.

Yep, that appropriately sums things up.

I like his preseason work ethic. Come Round 1 the effort he's put into improving himself and his game should convert the non-believers.

I honestly don't know where the trepidation comes from, he's the closest thing we've got to the full package out of all our potential mids.

Have to agree. And if you went back and watched the first 8 games of a majority of the better midfielders of the last 20 or so years, I'm sure you'll find that our boy has done just as well if not better.

He reminds me a little bit of Hirdy: He's not yet 20 and by all accounts he's got a good head on his shoulders, he's down to earth, has huge capacity to be an awe-inspiring leader and he's not afraid to work hard. Then there are his skills...!

Where do you guys see him fitting in this year? I'd like to see him play 15+ games. Is he competing with Dempsey, or can they co-exist. With Peverill gone, and Welsh out for a while, I would have thought a bit more midfield time would open up for Myers.

Well, He should be able to co-exist on a back flank with Dempsey, with a stint or two in the middle each game perhaps. Should play around 17-22 games.

I know we drafted him as a rebounding half back, but I see him as a huge part of our midfield in the the future.

Too effing true.
