So does Beams actually retire? Or is the club forcing him to retire? The whole remaining contract settlement is interesting.
You would think if Beams is in no condition to continue his AFL career that, as an employer, you shouldn’t be forced to pay out the remaining contract. It’s something the AFLPA should provide for.
But obviously a settlement will occur. Anyone hazard a guess/opinion on what this may be worth? $750k - $850k maybe?

I wonder if Eddie is working the AFL to provide us with some level of salary cap relief?

That's going be interesting part, I wonder if the AFL will allow us to stretch it out over more years? like 6 years which honestly would probably be better for him.

What happened with Tom Boyd remaining contract?

AFL make rules on the run so maybe they give us a chop out.

All the best to Dayne and his family in the next chapter, as others have mentioned I hope he can find some peace and ward off those demons.

Thanks for the on field memories Dayne

Boyd tore it up and walked away, did he not?

The best thing for the club, and more importantly Beamer. A sad end to his career really, considering when fit and firing he was one of the best mids going around.
Hopefully a fair and amicable agreement can be reached.
All the best to Beamer and his family going forward and he can find some peace away from the AFL environment.
On a side note, hopefully the potential to free up some cap space can help us retain DeGoey and Moore in particular.

Pretty sure a payout figure was agreed to between Boyd and the Doggies, which in turn remained in the salary cap for last season, but has been removed for this season. He did forego the remaining years of his contract, so similiar to what Beams has remaining on his contract around $1.5M, l believe.

So we might beable to pay him maybe 700k and try fit it in for this year releasing cap room for next year?

Ahh ok, yep a little different than what I was thinking then!

However it goes down, I hope all parties can be happy with a quick resolution and we move on

Making up stuff in that head of yours, whatever helps you sleep tonight, just remember, I didn't make you look the fool you did that all that by yourself.

I'm not biting again, I'll leave it at that so get the last word in as usual and then please move on for your own sake.

I'm over your crap and so are most on this board, try to not be responsible for getting another thread locked.
BEEG,
The day you become a mod is the day I leave. You’ve got some disciples now, but there are still some who see you, and know your history of big talk.

I fondly recall your description of the Copeland and who you were taking a leak next to.

You’re not the only one who goes to club functions.

Your commentary on Beams is/ has been appalling. 76 and Quick would have shut you down.

Alas, the times have changed.

Don't be angry with Beamer.
He didn't know it would end this way.

My anger is towards our coach and recruiting team and Lions management bending us over a barrel knowing full well the extent of his issues.

Just like Carlton did with Yarran.

I hope he finds peace within.
Good Luck.

Agree! When you have a mental illness you really have no control of your ability to make decisions. Beamer obviously thought he would get better but he has obviously gone the other way. The club should have done there due diligence.

Beams will always be a Premiership player and Copeland Trophy winner, but everyone should be able to see that this is for the best. It couldn't go on anymore and was only hurting the club in the long run.

Since he's returned to the club, it's been toxic with all the off-field issues that concern him. I've heard enough from multiple sources to know that this is for the best.

After years of Buckley and Co attempting to change the culture of the club which started to bear fruit in 2018 with our rise up the ladder, the decision to bring back Beams seriously undermined the culture change we had been striving to achieve for years.

Thanks for the memories, but this is the best outcome for both parties. Time to move on and start focusing on the season ahead.

Here's hoping the settlement is completed as quickly as possible.

there's a classic case in contract law at university. It involves an opera singer or something similar who has a contract to sing on a particular night and the promoter has agreed to pay him or her - cant remember which - for the performance. Come the night, the opera singer has lost their voice and cant go on. Does the singer still get paid because there wasn't a clause in the contract saying what will happen if they get sick. The judge said no. The contract was said to be frustrated. The singer couldnt provide what they agreed to provide - through no fault of their own. So the singer and the promoter walk their separate ways. So the Pies might argue the frustrated contract argument, but Beam's people might argue that the club knew his state of mind when the contract was signed. I can see both sides could make a good argument.

Very few can say that Jen. He gave the club plenty, and retires a Collingwood hero.

BEEG, you posted rumours that were common knowledge around Melbourne. And took credit for it like a hero.

And now you’re dancing on his grave.
no he hasn't. But Beeg did speak the truth, accept it and move on.

Would be handy if mental health qualified as a retirement injury that meant any money wasn’t included in salary cap.

Beams won’t be like Tom Boyd and walk away from the deal
If it's a workplace injury the AFL would be hard pressed not too. Obviously not all physical injuries occur while involved in club activities either, but mental health is a lot harder to isolate the root cause and there's also a lot more room for grey.
