If Dead Island sounds familiar to you, then you have a good memory. It was originally announced in 2007, but no publisher was officially attached. Techland worked on other projects in the years since, but Dead Island was slowly shuffling along in the background. Now, Deep Silver is on board, and the game seems likely to see the light of day. It's scheduled for a 2011 release on Xbox 360, PC and PS3, but no specific dates have been revealed yet.
The Royal Palms Resort is perched on the remote island of Banoi in Papua New Guinea. It's a tropical paradise turned tourist magnet, remote and exotic. Not the sort of place you'd expect to find scattered caches of weapons, boxes of grenades, rocket launchers leaning against walls, and mounted machine guns. In an effort to preserve that reality, Techland, the developers of Dead Island, have stripped those handy gaming conventions away, leaving a stark reality in their place.

No. It's CGI. Not going to look like that in-game.Are these the best graphics ever? Close by my books!!

Yeah, because there's not many games that have Zombies in the plot. The game does look interesting though!

Nah, I was going by off what the IGN guys were saying about the game itself, sandbox style, make your own weapons, different type of zombies, etc. I know games have done these things before, but have they done them all together? There are already games with zombies in the plot???Nah, I was going by off what the IGN guys were saying about the game itself, sandbox style, make your own weapons, different type of zombies, etc. I know games have done these things before, but have they done them all together?
It'll definitely have a similarity to Dead Rising in a lot of aspects. But I think that they're also really playing hard on the survival horror aspect which was never really something that Dead Rising didn't play too much on the horror or survival stuff, it was more "get through these ****ing hordes of zombies" kind of a game. So maybe in that respect it'll be similar to a Condemned (with the FP action and all), only a lot more open than Condemned.Dead Rising?
I hadn't really heard about this up until this trailer. The:spade: trailer seems to be steering the game down the whole 'tug at your emotions' trail rather than a straight out zombie action adventure survival horror title which I think was what this project was when first announced?
Also not sure if it's been mentioned but this is being made by Techland, the same guys that were behind Call of Juarez: BiB. Mixed verdicts on that game IIRC.

Plenty of potential.

OP will be disappoint when actual gameplay vid is released![]()
Maybe so - but that CGI was very, very impressive.

IS DEAD ISLAND ANYTHING LIKE ITS DEBUT TRAILER?
Serious. Somber. Disturbing. These are words I would use to describe Dead Island's amazing debut trailer.
You saw it, right?
Today I got to see about 15 minutes of Dead Island in action. What words would I use to describe the gameplay?
Silly. Wacky. Goofy.
Oh, and fun.
When developer Techland played Dead Island for me today, they chose the stereotypical "video game black guy" character. As he ran around slicing up zombies and bashing in their heads, he would exclaim things like, "Daaaaaamn, that bitch was huge!" and "You a dead bitch now!" Imagine hearing that sort of commentary over the trailer that depicted the tragic death of a young girl.

As much as I love games, you can kinda see why people like Roger Ebert don't take them seriously, haha
