On the Eagles board we/they are talking about trading Cox for the right price. I just want to to know what opposition clubs would be willing to trade for Dean Cox. He is older yes but still in the top few ruckmen in the comp and for a team with the window open and not having much ruck strength (hawthorn for example) it might be a bit of a trade option. So what players/draft picks from your clubs would you trade him for?

You would probably get Lewis from hawthorn.

I know you've probably just thrown a name out there to get the thread going, but how exactly would losing Cox and bringing in someone like Jordan Lewis improve the West Coast side?

I know you've got to give something up to get something, but unless West Coast think Nick Naitanui is ready to carry all the ruck load, or Will Sullivan has made massive strides at WAFL level recently, it's not going to improve their side to lose Cox (even in his current less-than-previous-All-Australian-form state).

are Hill, Everitt, Minson at all appealing to WCE?... :\

Great post. (and you're not even an eagles fan) Thumbs up.

Cox was in pretty good form throughout May.
Started the season way underdone & still chipped in a goal a game most weeks. His season hasn't been as bad as some think.

Gold Coast need a ruckman. As they've pillaged some WA talent (Matera) & will likely take Bennel, perhaps they'll be kind to us & offer pick upgrades or outright picks.
They could do worse than Dean Cox with one of their later 1st round picks.

Josh Hill is always talked about amongst the fans, not sure what the club think of him.
Hill/Yarran type speedy forward would be good.

Wasn't the whole point of the Naitinui/Cox combo the whole learning experience for Naita from Cox??

The value of Cox is more than just his ruckwork, it's his knowledge which Naitinui desperately needs over the next 5 years.

Two questions:
"How much?" and "Give it to me".

Need some tall defenders? I'd give Rivers for him.

He turns 29 in a month.

Mid to late 1st round pick this season.

Late 1st round, early 2nd round in a normal draft.

Melbourne and Richmond would be excellent destinations.

A club like Hawthorn would have to part with a 1st round pick and a player.

Which would comfortably secure his bootlaces.
What about the rest of him?

If a 27 year old injury prone Burgoyne is woth two first rounders, and Fev is worth a first round and a potential young gun then Cox must be worth something similar.

I would say Jolly is a good comparison for worth. Jolly was an older experienced ruckman. Ruckmen are a scarce commodity. I would rate Cox higher, but perhaps the shine is coming off him now. We gave up pick #14 & #46.

I would think a side like Hawthorn would offer something like that & a player as he is a perfect fit & would make them a massive premiership chance next year.

The problem is that Hawthorns 1st draft pick is going to be somewhere near or in the 20's.

They are going to have to give up a solid player as well, and for that reason, I can't see the trade going ahead.

Cox's best is behind him. Getting injections to get through games again this year. He is finished. Value......zip.

Would be a great fit for the Hawks. Gold Coast should have a good look at him, even if he only plays for 3 or 4 more years, he'd be worth it. You need guys like him especially in the ruck to protect the younger bodies.

I agree that Richmond need a good ruckman, but as it was said earlier in the thread he is turning 29 soon. I think Richmond would look at sombody younger than that.
Hawthawn would be the best fit IMO.

He'd have to be worth at least a top 10 pick, wouldn't he?

Best bet would be to trade him to GC for pick 5/7/9. They have so many first round picks that they'd be able to give up a first rounder without any adverse effects. Eagles grabbing a pick >10 would be of no benefit to our already young list, we need a pick that will nab us a potential future star and the deeper you go into the draft the less chance of finding a gem.

You picked a bad week to take up sniffing glue.:D;)

A 26 year old Cox may have been worth a top ten pick, but if the GC give you pick 15, then WC should grab it with both hands and bolt out the door.

Should Ottens retire and Ablett go to Goldcoast I'd be for Geelong giving up a top 10 compensation pick for Cox. When I say top 10 I mean something around 8-10 in a future draft

Id consider that. Cox gets to finish his career at a great club at their potential peak and perhaps help them to another flag.

Naitanui takes full time ruck duties, we draft a developing ruck and we get a pick in a future draft.

At 26 Cox would have been worth 2 top 10 draft picks or something close to that. He still has decent trade value and is probably best comparable to Jolly, although i rate Cox Higher.
It'd be interesting to see the value you would put on someone like David Hale

Hale is difficult. As a forward he's a 4th round selection, as a ruckman who knows. He might even come in for McIntosh and play 2nd ruck with Goldy.

Be similar value to Jolly, so a 1st (top 17) and 3rd (34 - 50) round pick seems right.

With GC having so many picks though it may muddy the waters a fair bit, may need 3 way deal with exchange in picks somewhere.

Josh Fraser would currently be a 3rd - 4th rounder 2 years ago 1st rounder easy, body is stuffed.
