Club Statement: Dean Warren to leave Brisbane Lions at end of season

Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football, Dean Warren, has resigned from his position and will leave the Club at the end of the season.

Warren has informed the Club that he wants to explore new opportunities after five years in the key role, having been appointed in October 2010.

Interesting. It reads as if it was his decision but I wonder if there is more to it. Still, grateful for the time he put into the club in a pretty dark period, always seemed like a pretty smart operator.

It'd be interesting to hear from someone on here with a bit of knowledge on how they have rated his performance over the past 5-6 years.

I have no idea* what exactly the role of 'general manager of football' entailed or how effective he was in that position.

The point is there is no point in trying to read between the lines on Warren's departure, it could be for a myriad of reasons.

There was an article not long ago that his position was going to be reviewed and then today he resigns. I think it's fairly obvious what has happened.

And it's a positive step. The AFL organised for Swann to come to us to do clean out our off field team and he's doing it. I'm sure he'll find a good replacement as well and this won't be the only change we see this year.

Thank you for your service Dean Warren. I feel this is just another step in the clean out the club needs to get the right people for the job.

Havent dealt with him myself, but have seen the way he conducts himself at club functions and what not. Have to say this guy went above and beyond, seemed like a great bloke. In the end the position he was in probably needed a more football head, but he seemed far from a dud.

Think this has more to do with Lambert really. He has been in the position awhile now, overall probably due for a change, and the club is seemingly about to bring in another option. Was mentioned in an article that Lambert was being chased for a 2IC position, not just a welfare one.

Always liked him. Not sure if his credentials are up to AFL standard, but always had a pep in his step and seemed to have some sense about him.

Always thought, If anything, he was a good speaker at the after match functions lol.

Narr in all seriousness, don't know enough about his role to comment, but for mine - solid contributor, good clubman and well liked.

I rated Deano, but i am probably a bit biassed as i'm a gympie boy.

I think he has done ok, but also think his performance would have (And justifiably) been up for some scrutiny at the end of the year.

One thing I think Deano did bring, and which we absolutely need to get in the new person is a queensland focus. Dean Warren was a QLD footy person not an AFL person. i think that has been a strength, the academy development, the engagement with QLD footy have all been good IMO, and should continue to be a goal.
