I'm certain because I have a scientific mind. Every single bit of reason points to relgion being a joke and a tool used by the ruling elite to control masses. Religion is also something that sick and old people or those who have had family members die recently use to make themselves more comfortable with death.

I used to follow Confucian philosophy and believed that there was no point even trying to comprehend an afterlife because we didn't understand the world we are in at the moment.

That said, if it makes you happy then go for it. Each to their own.

Chemical reactions are actually occurring whether you are alive or dead.

I'm not certain, but I have had a personal experience.

My father and I always stated that if there was an afterlife, then whoever went first would send a sign from beyond.

A few years later, dads got cancer and is in palliative care, when his condition suddenly deteriorated much quicker than expected and I was called to go to the hospice.

On my way to the hospice, I had a wierd feeling that I can't say I have experienced before or since, and I took a note of the time on my car dash that stated it was 8:29 PM.

Anyway, I get there around 20 minutes later and I noticed that the doctor dealing with me is a little on "eggshells" in his manner, so I intuited that my father must have already passed, so I asked him that and he confirmed that fact.

I then asked if my fathers passing occurred at 8:29, to which he gave me a stunned look as he explained to me that that was the time he put on the death certificate.

Was this just some amazing coincidence? I dunno.

I ran this story past my step sister who has had over 20 years experience in nursing, and she replied that such events were not uncommon.

You're not dead and chemical reactions are still occuring. Animals dream too. Do you think they all have souls? Would a heaven be full of cats, dogs, rabbits and bandicoots?

Dunno. Scientists don't yet understand the complexities of the human brain.

So this makes it conclusive that there is no particle containing our intelligence that survives the decomposition of the body?

A soul could just be an atom that is absorbing its self or something. Just doesn't seem to me that a dream occurs on a known substance.
