Was hoping he would be taller (i.e. ruckman type) but oh well. Can't hurt!

His brother seems handy at the pies, hopefully he turns out to be a handy player.

Really nice bloke, clean below the knees, has a decent kick and reads the ball well.
Really lengthen the ground with speed and has a great tank in the small bits i have seen him train.

If he can develop as quickly as Joel, Dee's will be laughing.

We're probably still lacking another tall mid/utility type so it make sense in some ways - I assume that's where he's likely to play.

It's at least another sign of out development as a club that we have confidence to go outside the box.

24 is pretty late but If geelong can turn Blicavs into a BNF surely we can do something with this kid

I love this. His brother is as tough as nails and I'm sure he'll be cut from the same cloth. Taylor doesn't miss. This will be another master stroke from our saviour. And Joel Smith is going to be another Hunt, watch him explode into AFL next year.
Things could not be looking brighter.

Please tell me more about Joel Smith and how does the category B rookie thing work?

Joel is the son of Shaun and was playing basketball somewhere for the last 3 years before we signed him. The Category B rookie list basically allows clubs to sign either a) international athletes or b) athletes who haven't been registered in an AFL competition for three years prior to signing. A club can sign category B rookies at any time.

Ta mate.
How many can a club have and does a club have to take B rookies or is it by choice?
Does it take up any other rookie spot?

I like it,

Funny we are going for basketballers seemingly under Taylor, might just be who he can follow.

Rather than some other clubs going for Americans and Irishmen.

It's an interesting loophole we are exploring, players that were gun footy players as kids who chose basketball but have strong footy genes.
