Has there been another coach in Collingwood's history that has delisted as many players as Malthouse? We have delisted 3 to 4 playing sides, including others that have been unwanted such as Tarrant, Williams, Michael and Schauble. He lays down the law - an uncompromising coach if there ever was one. If Tony Shaw still coached to this day he would have believed he could get the best out of his mediocre players and hold onto them as long as it takes.

Any thoughts?

I definately wasn't happy when we got rid of Williams. He was a gun.
Both he and Schauble went on to win a B&F at Sydney, and Michael went on to win 3 premierships with the Lions.
Lets hope Tarrant doesn't realise his potential at Freo,or I will be realy pissed off.
I can't remember, but what or who did we end up getting for Williams and Schauble anyway.

I cant say with any certainty but I'm pretty sure that the pick/s that we received for Williams allowed us to gather the services of James Clement and Brodie Holland.
If my memory does serve me correctly I've got to say that it was a rather good trade for us.
Although, it would have been better to hold onto Williams and still get Clement.

If that is the case,I'm fairly happy with the deal then.
I'm with you, when you say it would have been good to keep Williams and get still Clement.
There was a rumour going around that he and Buckley didn't see eye to eye.
Is there any truth in that?

Do you know who/what we got for Schauble?

Let's just say we got the rough end of the trade, which we did.

We had no control over Tarrant. He blew his chance of becoming a 10-year player at Collingwood, simply because he was lazy, and don't give me this crap that he worked hard on the track because every time I went to see the boys train he was praciticing his goal kicking, and that's it. It's easy to bag Tarrant now he's gone, but I wish him the best in spite of my feelings.

Williams had something in common, I guess he and Tarrant didn't look happy in the end.

I wouldn't have a clue how hard he worked on the track.
I live in Perth, and only ever got to see him play half a dozen or so games.
I wish I did have the opportunity to see the boys train, and more importantly play.
Having said that,I should go and poke my head into Freo's training session and see how he is going.(seeing how it is only 5 minutes from home)
I'll send in a report on how he is doing when I do.

I believe we got Brodie and Jimmy in return for Willo, and Paul Licuria in return for Andrew Schauble, so unless I'm mistaken, those are both very good trades.

Are you sure? I thought Licuria came to the club prior to Schauble's departure - he played in Collingwood's last game at Victoria Park - Schauble left Collingwood at the end of 1999.

The deals were actually a bit more complex than that, having looked them up - Andrew Schauble was traded for Leon Davis and the superstar Mark Kinnear. However, given the emergence of Presti, Schauble was becoming somewhat redundant.

As for the Licuria deal, it was also a fair bit bigger. We traded Pick #3 (Nic Fosdike) for Paul Licuria, Mark Orchard, Pick #12 (Adam Ramanauskas) and Pick #44 (Heath Scotland).

The big mistake was then trading Pick #12 (Adam Ramanauskas) for Ricky Olarenshaw and Pick #41 (Craig Jacotine).

Your kidding, Clement has been fantastic for us, but Holland hasn't been anything too special.

As has already been mentioned, I would have kept Willo with Clement.

Licca for Schauble was a good trade though, I wasn't a big fan of schauble.

IIRC when the Orchard/Licuria trade we all thought the best player out of that deal would be Orchard and Licuria was probably just tacked on to the trade, or am I completely wrong?

Also I think we got Guy Richards with a pick we got from the complicated Willo/Clement/Holland trade. Holland was fantastic in 2003 and has been a solid player while Clement has been amazing. Williams has too it was a win-win trade, well except for Freo.

We/Tarrant picked the wrong time of his career to be traded in terms of market value. I am not a big believer in the idea that "Tarrant is a very talented player, if only he worked hard he would be a champion". IMO he is not very talented, he is good by foot when passing, he is quick and strong and has good hands, but that's about it, he has a below average footy brain. The only reason people say he has all the talent in the world is because he can snap a goal out of his ass from the boundary every now and again and take a high mark. Well even Licuria has been known for a Daicosian goal or two. IMO Tarrant is only a player of note because of his hard work (on the field at least) and he has gotten almost the most out of himself as a player.
