jUst to let everyone jnow we will need to delist more than just gallagher.
In fact we will need to delist 3 in total.

Rationale:
Current list size 37 - has to be 38 in 2005

Retirements: Carey, Burns, Smart,
Delisting: Gallagher

Thats a modified list of 33. Add to that Smith and the list size is revised to 34.

Our draft picks and PS picks (which I believe we will fully utilize) are:
8, 24, 28, 40, 56 and PS #5 - Total of 6 with only 4 vacancies currently on the list to bring up to 38.

This means we will need to delist a total of 3 to use all our picks.

Who then: Gallagher, Shirley, and Skippy/Schuback.

Schuback you say???? but give me 3 that are not under contract ?
Personally I think Skippy should be the 3rd but I'm not sure it will happen
:(
Haven't I proved your rationale wrong in the other thread

Linky

Count them there are 40 players on that list ;)

If you think we will use 5 picks in the national draft and 1 pick in the pre-season draft then we will need to delist 2. However if we only have 5 picks all together then we only have to delist Gallagher.

Remeber that Hart is on Veterans list and Roo is eligible to go there this year as well

I didn't take veterans list into account, but thats assuming we do It.

1. by putting Roo on the veterans list we reduce our capacity to put more rookie players on.

2. If we halve Roos salary by being on the veterans list, we have to perhaps overpay other players which then has an effect our "cash" position next year to attract a high priced recruit - do we want to do that. I don't think our TPP is such that we need to put Roo on the veteran list.

Therefore on that assumption we will still need to delist at least 1 more (apart from gallagher) but I'll stick still with my 3 choices ;)

Because Gags has already been told that he won't be here next year. We put him up for trade but no one wanted him. He will be delisted and I think he will be the only one.

In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Essendon picked him up with a late pick as they need some pace in the midfield.

I wonder if any other players were offered as trade bait and if so who they were?

I think Massie and/or Shirley could be flicked.

I think Skipworth, given time could be like Edwards and Schubacka could be a tough inside midfielder like Josh Carr.

Both I think have more upside than Massie or Shirley.

Re Roo on the veterans list. Can someone pls clarfiy - I thought they had to be over 30 to be listed. Roo is 30 next June - will he qualify in 2005? Also does the veterans list actually impact on the numbers in the squad - I thought it was just 50% of their salary wasnt included in the salary cap

I dont think age has anything to do with it. My understanding is they must have played 10 seasons with the same club. Only Port and Freo have consesions because their not 10 years old yet.

Dont know about the squad numbers bit.

Without Stenglein as a run-with tagger type player who will take that role if we delist Shirley ??

Massie was on the up after the 03 season but for some reason lost his way in early 04 & dropped his bundle & then suffered injury wise so maybe 1 more season to see if he can turn it around again under Craig.

My delistings would be Gallagher who has had plenty of chances to adapt to AFL & Skipworth even though he puts in he seems to lack in the skills dep & for a guy his size also lacks a bit in pace.

If not under contract i would definitely think seriously about dropping Bock of our list as well.

Thanks Crowked

My 3 list for delisting :

Gallagher - has had enough chances

Ladhams (assuming not under contract) - see above

Last one either Skippy, Schubank or Torney. Probably go for the honest battler as hes 28 next yr. The 'potential' of Scubank and Skippy needs to be better realised next yr otherwise they are gonsky also

Shirley will definitely stay now that Stenglein has gone

It definetly won't be Schuey or Skippy.

Craigy has them both in midfield rotations next year. I think people underestimate Schuey's capabilities. I would dearly love for him to be given a full game as a HFF/onballer. His raking left foot kicks and his blistering pace would trouble opposition.

I have faith in Schuback and I reckon Craig and Stewart will get th ebest out of him.

Under the old rules a player couldn't get to veteran's list until he turns 30 but the rule was changed last year or the year before where a player can now be placed on veteran's list if he turns 30 and has 10 years at the club during the year so Roo would qualify for 2005 season.

Basically you are allowed a list of 38 and you can have 2 veterans on top of that. Every club (bar Sydney and Brisbane) are allowed a total of 44 players including rookies. If we have 2 veterans next year in Roo and Hart, we can have a seior list of 40 and have 4 rookies on the rookie list.

Shuback had a great game against the Hawks at the G this year but does seem to go missing from time to time. I reckon he has the skills just needs to get his body fit and string together a few games in a row.

I thought with the veterans list that the more players you had on your veterans list the lower the percentage of each players salary would not be counted towards the salary cap. i.e 1 player 50% not counted, 2 players 30% of each players salary not counted?

You are right with the salary cap bit.

1-2 players = 50%
3 players = 33%
4 players = 25%

Is Schuback capable of handling a tagging roll?
