Who goes? Who do we keep?
(Note this doesn't include players that we should try and trade)
IMO, I'd have it this way -
Motlop - Great VFL player, doesn't show enough at AFL level though.

Nicholson - Got Fergy and Warnock now, hopefully we get Petrie and that would certainly spell the end of Nicho. Always gave his all and I wish others had his attitude, but simply not up to it.

Godfrey/Read - One of these two should go, and I'd prefer it to be Godders, as they both go in hard and would die for the club but Philthy can actually tag and although he gives away silly free kicks his disposal is a lot better than Godfreys.

Any others? I've probably forgotten a couple.

Nicho & Bizzel are still contracted for 2007,

I would say Read is definate (which is sad), Motlop, possible Godfrey and I don't know who else. Possibly Brown or Ferg or Trade??

Motlop - definite
Read - most likely
Smith - most likely
Nicho - surely we can pay out his one year contract whats it worth $2

I think godfrey brown and bizzel should go but i think they will last this year

I'm starting a SAVE PHILTHY pressure group. Applications on a postcard to the usual address.

I agree dude, but the MFC has to make 3 - 4 spots available for draft and rookie elevations.

So...........

Nicho & Bizzel are contracted. Delisting = 0, need 4.

Godfrey, Read, Motlop are all most likely out of contract and will be de-listed.
Delisting = 3, need 4

Warnock - possible elevation, we may need to delist another 1 or 2.

Trading away players could be possible to ie: Ward, Ferg, Wheatly, Bizzell, but who knows!!!

We can only keep Ready if we can make the room available, which I doubt is likely. Its sad, I liked him, but football is a business and we (vics) have to get better at it.

Read
Motlop
Nicholson
Smith
Bizzell
Godfrey
Brown

All of these players will be under the microscope.

We need to get about 5-6 free spots so we have room for drafting and trading.

Motlop is a given and will follow the lead of chris lamb to sign for sandy
dont know why alot of you guys are down on godders he is ugly but he is one of our best taggers and is a ball magnet even though his disposel lets him down one more year. Ready is gone hopefully this bloke always lets me down. Nicho is gone dont need him with chop and fergo. And i beleive to offer jamar up for trade bait to try and get a nick stevens or someone with a bit of polish in the midfield. Paul Johnson is ten times better then jamar and you will hopefully see it next year big wraps on this bloke. Just my thoughts :)

Browny is contracted for next year. What is it with the vendetta against him to get rid of him?? He was one of the best players in the in the qualifying final and had a interupted year with injury. When he played AFL he was mostly excellent. PLayed sensational in the VFL to earn his spot back after injury. What else does he have to do. He's allways been under rated in the league but now it seems even Melbourne supporters are under rating his ability and worth to the team. Just because someone clicks over to 30 it doesn't mean he's finished. He's very fit naturally and could play 3 more seasons IMO.

He gets knocked because he is an unaccountable small defender with poor foot skills. He is the definition of a depth player, happy to have him on again next year but not in the best 22.

I agree, what really is going to be interesting really is who they actually do delist. Smith and Read could be in big trouble!

Is Ward still contracted? Brown?

But thats where I think there's been a false perception created about him. I have kept a eye on his stats for the majority of his career and the vast majority of times his direct opponents would have between 8 to 14 possessions and maybe a goal where as Nath would have 25 and provide drive off half back with 6-8 inside fifties. His last game is just another example of this.

Yep he's had tiimes when his opponent has beaten him and kicked 3 or 4 goals but every player has that occasional game and it gets magnified in the backline. To say his outright accountable is just false. It seems you have a firm view on this Destroy and thats unfortunate. Dam good player increasingly less and less appreciated it seems.

He's a good tough player, but i have to agree with Deestroy, he may have gotten 25 possies in the qualifying final, but frankly i think most of them were pretty ordinary. No use kicking the ball inside 50 if its not to the advantage of our forwards.

i agree PJ is way more versatile than Jamar

I agree with you Chipper! "The Dog" is highly underated(although not by the coach).Courageous, good motor, experienced, not afraid to take a chance!

I must agree with others re the foot skills though!

If MFC are to participate in Trade Week then they have to put up someone good as bait.Possibilities are:

MILLER (May have saved himself from trade after the Qualifying final)
GREEN (Needs to get more hard ball)
JAMAR (Johnson better prospect)
MOLONEY

What are others views on possible trade bait? (remembering we will only get a good player for a good player)

Why are we wanting to get rid of Jamar?

He just had his best season, played almost every game as a backup to White and also proved he can play forward.

Let's be fair there was nobody else to do it.

Philthy is gone, especially now that he's headbutted some loser from Geelong.

If 426 goes as well, who will be our new cult hero?
Can we choose someone good for a change, or will we jinx him? :o

If Godfreys goes, it will be a very very sad day for the MFC.

1st one recalled when things going bad, and 1st one dropped when things going well. The sacrificial player at MFC.

He is hard at the footy, the Melbourne supporters love him, and always gives 110%. The quinessential bloke a team can rally around when he does multiple 1% ers.

Godders may not best the best by foot, but by Godders he has a heart bigger than Phar Lap !!!!!

I have absoloutely no idea why you have Moloney and Jamar in there. I can understand the other two because Miller was ordinary until our 2nd final and Green has been consistent but hasn't starred, but Beamer's year was a write off due to OP and lets not forget he's still 22-23 and developing, and came fourth in our B&F last year. Also on Jamar if White goes down we need backup and Whitey has another year or two at best and Jamar has shown enough as a pure ruckman, he just needs to get more of it around the ground.

In regards to a new cult hero to replace 426/Read.....any pearlers in this years draft? Perhaps we could convince Bate to grow a mowhawk and that'd about do it.
