What use will he be in 2007. Seriously. Our #1 ruckman?

He let the fans down terribly in 2006 and plenty of you guys stood up for him, and he only got more pathetic and laughable.

I guess he's another dud we can't afford to pay out *sigh*.

I think Fabian is much, much better. Then again, we got him for a much higher pick and he was taught by Primus, Brogan and Lade.

To Carlton Adrian Deluca is still a bargain. With that pick, Deluca wasn't as ***** as some of the other players of that catagory.

For once I actually agree with you.

You have hit the nail right on the head :thumbsu:

tis tis.. i know his the most unco giraffe on the planet i just think his on the list for ruck purposes. But i find him quite capable of stretching opposition defences and can kick 2-4 a game if played right.

if he doesnt show anything id say bye bye birdy

He's worth tolerating a bit more. Big men take longer, and he's only 23. He has no idea how to ruck, but that might change one day - it's too early to give up. I don't think Pagan has any intention of dumping him this year, or the next.

In the meantime, he's very mobile for his size, pretty quick, and a good kick for goal. If he consistently hit packs the way he did a few times last year he would be a 50 goal forward, and a real problem for the opposition. His marking problems are all in his head and that - like Fev's accuracy in the early days - can change overnight.

Well said AlecDuncan. I'm glad someone else out there can see a bit of positive in this guy. You're right, he's only still really young. I like him. He's a good marking forward, and is also ok at ground level.

Two things you haven't mentioned that annoy me about Deluca.

1. He struggles to keep his feet
2. He is pushed off the ball too easily for a big guy

I think the only position he can play is in the forward line and I think our forward line is pretty much set for 2007 and beyond.

Not only this but he struggles to play a good game in the VFL as well... I think his time is up but it is obvious that Denis likes the guy so who knows....

Shlomo, are you on suicide watch or what.

Lighten up. ;)

We all know that Deluca is no Fitzpatrick, but what do you expect the club to do. He has to be retained on the list until someone else comes along that can replace him. Enough said.

At least he's a better kick than Fitzy, but then so am I.

I agree...he's very quick for his height...if he could just take 50% of the marks he gets his hands on he would be very handy...my question is how easy is it to teach contested marking???

remember his 3rd quarter against the kangaroos?

I do but 4 goals in one quarter of footy hardly constitutes stardom status!

but at the same time it just proves what he is capable of. he deserves one more year.

Yes, I do.

Unfortunately, that's the only thing on his highlight reel.

Deluca is useless. Turning it on for 1 quarter out of 88 is not good enough. Not nearly. Unless he improves dramatically in the few games he gets in 2007, he will be gone at the end of the season.

Deluca won't make it. His inability to mark and surprisingly poor ruck ability are his major deficiencies. Denis has been using him as a tall forward, which I don't like because, even though he might kick a goal or 2, he stuffs our forward-line structure up, by getting in the way of Fev, Waite, Fisher etc. Bryan is a much better option. :)

I agree :thumbsu:

The guy struggles at VFL level let alone at AFL level.

But Pagan does like him so, no doubt he will be in and out of our side next year. I hope Adrian proves me wrong... but I don't think he will :(

Not sure that Fev, Waite, Fisher, and Deluca would have played in the same forward line that often........he seemed to be pushed up there when we had Fev as the only option (i.e. others were injured).

I think he is still young and may.......may turn out O.K.
Amazing that if we opened up a thread on ...........I don't know........say Leuenberger........many would be saying (and have already said)
"Ruckmen don't develop until they are about 25"
For mine he has at least one year to continue to develop, and show that he is headed the right direction.
Be honest.....in the next two years what other choice do we have other than take an experienced ruck in the PSD...........many of the same that bag Deluca bag this idea to so what's your solution.

Draft a kid? Great, that's a 3-5 year plan. What next?

I would hope not. I would hope that he improves out of sight in 2007 and becomes a part of our core. Was once said that "he is almost good at everything" and I believe in that comment. It's almost as if something is waiting to click into place and I hope it clicks before he ends up working at bunnings.
