Heaven and earth must be moved to get this guy.
He is quite simply awesome and EXACTLY what we need.
Powerful long kicking midfielder is just what the doctor ordered.

I think with Brisbans star studed line up they would prefer draft picks opposed to players
We have pick 5 and we problaly either need another top 10 pick or a few 2nd round picks.
I think we should trade Pick 5 and McPhee to Carlton for Pick 2.
Somthing like that
We need 2 top 10's or pick 1 or 2 for headland.

Not only that guys, he's a No.1 pick himself who's realised his potential .... and some !!! How do you justify ONLY handing over a No.1 to the Lions for him ? After the Lions had to forego their own No. 1 pick and 4 years of work !!??

I think you've blown your shot at him when you re-signed Pavlich, Haselby and Longmuir ... not only salary cap wise, but trade-bait wise too ....

Just an objective outsiders view on your dilemma .....

You're kidding aren't you? You really thought either of the big 3 would have been used as trade bait for Headland? Likewise, if Headland wants to come home, then you think Brisbane can afford to be picky? If Carlton loses their draft pick in the pre-season draft, that gives Fremantle number 3. Not bad odds for Headland to just enter the draft and Brisbane get nothing.

*If* headland wants to come home, i'd offer our first pick straight up. Maybe we'll throw in Metropolis too. ;)

Carlton won't lose their picks, Headland wouldn't last 'till three and it would take a similar amount of players to what we traded for Peter Bell ( 1 first round pick, Jess Sinclair, Brodie Holland and James Clement) to get him now. At least our first and second round picks plus McPhee (or some one similar).

Going to be virtually impossible to get him now!!!

Dessy Headland is going to play at the eagles if he comes back to WA. How can u afford him? be serious!

As I've said regularly over the last couple of weeks, if you want Headland, you're going to pay a high price in money, draft picks and releasing players.

The Eagles appear to have the front running, but that may be due to Freo being quiet on the trading front this year (similar to the Eagles last year).

He looks a good player (another year or two at his present standard may allow him to be elevated to the champion status), but what are you prepared to give?. I've made suggestions but it appears in your mind the "no trade" list will not be breached , even for Dessie?.

From a Freo point of view, we'd love to have him, but the reality is that the priorities this year have been elsewhere. eg. signing up existing players.

It's your turn in the trading wars this year.

I think too many people are reading too much into last years minimal salary cap breach by Freo. Honestly, how many of you eagles supporters who claim that we can't afford him know how much space we have?

Granted, I'm not saying we do have the space, as I don't know either, but how do you know we don't? After all, it was your club being bandied around as a contender for salary cap breaches a few weeks ago. Do you know how close you lot are to the mark?

In the end I think it's inconsequential, I reckon he'll stay in Brissie anyway...

the bloke sure knows how to get the umpires attention...polling votes in six straight games from Round 13 -18.

Who decides on the Norm Smith... the maggots or a panel?

I wouldn't put it past Cameron Schwab to weave some magic.

Is this the same magic that ended Fabian Francis' career? Or possibly the magic that cost Melbourne a few hundred thousand dollars?

You won't get any of Carlton's picks, because we're too excited to have them. Subsequently, your chances of trading for him are slim.

That said, if he went into the pre-season draft you would be a chance. He wants to play in the West and with Melbourne teams having first crack, would they take the punt on having a sullen, uninterested Headland on their list, just waiting for the chance to get back home? Or would they leave him for you?

Fabian injured his knee playing for Souths and thus required a knee reconstruction. The knee injury has finish his career at top level, not Cameron who was at least prepared to give him a go (15 others clubs didn't re-draft him).

As for Headland, I think he will find it easier to stay at Brisbane.

Yes, but if not for Schwabby's fantastic book-keeping, he would never have been playing for Souths.

Be careful how much faith you put in Schwab - he's not to be trusted.

Hang on a sec, the *only* reason Francis wasn't drafted was because 2 days before the draft, the AFL stripped us of the draft pick due to salary cap breaches the year before, when Schwab wasn't there.

It has nothing to do with the state of play in regard to salaries at the time. The players actually volunteered to take a salary *cut* just to fit Francis in.

IF he wanted to go home and IF Brisbane were to entertain a trade, would you consider Leigh Brown and the #5 pick to be worth Headland?

Dunno, Brown plus pick 21 probably, but i'd be hesitant trading our top pick unless it aws a straight trade, i.e pick 5 for Headland.

I'm not convinced Headland is all that good. he may well be, but it's hard to judge when he's playing in a side full of superstars and usually playing on a hack. Bring him here and the standard of opponent is going to increase, because the opposition coach doesn't have about 7 or 8 other guys to think about before getting to Headland.

Sabre,

Why not put in some players that haven't had a good year due to injury and or illness or lack of form.

Players like Luke Toia, Anthony Jones, Clive Waterhouse, etc.

I reckon that they would be all great pickups for other clubs.

Toia is finished.
Jones...maybe...but a huge maybe.
Waterhouse......6 games in 2 seasons? Get real.

I would prefer to do 21 and pick 5 for headland.
Throwing in brown is a bit stiff

I would accept L.Brown and pick 5 for Headland as has been circulated. Leigh Brown is a great defender, this could free up Leppitsch to become a full time forward.

Of course this is if he wants to go...he still might want to stay in Brisbane.
