When i relfect on the ebb and flow of our 2011 season I can't help but zero in on our inexperience in the box cruelling our chances at finals glory this year. from the outset we were gifting sides 5 goal leads by quarter time. i put this down to misunderstanding the opposition gameplan and taking time to respond to it. next there was a preoccupation with certain types of players at the expense of seasoned senior players. And lastly our game plan is about 2/3 right...we are quite good on the offensive but bloody deplorable on the switch, no more obvious than against North.

I support the crew we have in place, i like dimma and trust the deputys he has in place, i just feel we will continue to learn on the run and that will prove costly. if we want to take some giant steps forward then appointing a fella like Neil craig will go a long way to avoiding these constant growing pains that tend to afflict our club every era by acting as a mentor/tutor to our young coaching group...lets do it tigers:thumbsu:

bt on league teams just stated that we have offered neil craig a 3yr deal as the high performance manager which he is seriously considering.

I wholeheartedly agree. What a coup that would be, a serious testament to the new direction of the Gale administration if we were able to pull it off. I had a dream last night that we employed a much BigFooty department which included Ross Lyon as a senior assistant. Could Craig be the embodiment of this?

The club has been rattling the tins all year to improve the coaching staff. Sit back and wait for the new editions. I'm sure they will be quality.

Craig is a champion.

He has flaws (who doesn't), but he's very knowledgeable, incredibly smart, unbelievable committed and a great teacher.

I don't want us to lose him, but it might be best for both parties if we go our separate ways.

If you get him, it'll be a massive, massive coup, and a huge positive for Hardwick (who I rate hugely).

The way I see it, Maric + Neil Craig should land us your first round pick? ;)

If Craig comes to Tigerland he could add some much needed experience to our young group- Players and Coaches included

...the fact that you and plenty of others have been abusing me all year for being right? ;):thumbsu:

Neil Craig knows the fundamentals which lay the foundations for success back to front and he's the kind of communicator and leader we could really use on board to help get those things across to a young group. Depending on the circumstances he would operate under, he could be a huge asset to us and a very smart appointment.

Craig sounds like a smart fella, and I'm sure he'd add some value at the Tiges, but let's keep it in perspective. He had a strong list, a massive budget and failed. Harsh, but true.
Not totally knocking him but he aint the messiah, so let's not pump him up to be the golden one. It's where we've failed in the past.

Adelaide never had a strong list IMO. They had a good top end, and a great full back, but it fell away quickly after that. A bit like us at the moment actually...

Yep - he came in when our list was meant to be stuffed except for 4 aging superstars - and had us playing some of the best football you'd ever see in 05/06.

Our great fullback (and I love Truck) was going to be delisted if it wasn't for Craig (and so was Bock). He took our average list and turned it into a gun one, and he did it like Collingwood has now - a core of guns, but bringing the backbone players up to a higher level, and designing a gameplan which promoted their strengths and not their weaknesses.

And he brought the zone into the AFL (Clarko improved it, but Craig pioneered it).

He deserved a flag for those two years - and if it wasn't for injuries/suspensions (mainly injury - Hentschel's knee, Roo's parvo, Biglands doing a knee), he would've got one. He then took us back in the mix in 09 and was a kick away from having a red hot go at the flag again.

And we don't have a massive budget - we're comfortable, but we aren't at a Collingwood level.

As a Head Coach, he has his failings - he's stubborn to a fault and believes in the system/process to the death; as a senior Assistant or Director of Coaching type, neither of those weaknesses are a factor.

Interesting to note - they still absolutely love him at the Crows; the players were genuinely shattered when he went (so they should be), but everybody needed a change.

Would be a great, great pickup for you - I'd take him over Eade or Bailey any day.

So Brisbane and Richmond are into him, the AFL are interested, Cricket Australia are apparently keen to talk to him about their new High Performance Manager Role...

And Port want to talk to him as well, but check this out..

Port Adelaide also is prepared to consider Craig for a role at Alberton, but it is understood Craig will not agree to meet with the Power.

Told you he was a man of integrity.

What a legend :D

He has integrity, that's for sure.

Good decision too :D

In all seriousness, I hope we get him, would be an unbelievable asset.

Really hope we get Craig. Massive coup if we do.

Would be interested to read the job description and KPI's etc. Does he coach the coaches (WTF?) or is he set to be like a super development coach?

Dunno the specifics, but let's get him.

**** yeah!!!

Wonder what his relationship with Carrrazy Ivan is like?

You do know that we have been focussing on our own game plan instead of countering opposition tactics this year. Something that has only just started to be developed as the season has gone on.

I think it`s High performance manager and mentor to the coaches.

High performance manager is a sports science/fitness role which Craig has experience in at the SA Institute of sport and with the Australian Olympic cycling team.

He also helped devise the Crows fitness regime in their Premiership years of 97/98.

Good call, both our fitness and coaching groups are pretty young so Craig`s experience will be great to have.

There wouldn`t be any other bloke involved in AFL that has Neil Craig`s all-round skill set, experience and respect.

He will be a fantastic appointment if we can pull it off.
