Multiplat Destiny 2 - 2014-2026 RIP

Any Destiny 3 would have to be set in the future with new characters, weapons, etc.
Preferably a less grindy loop but I doubt they would go for that.
That being said, unless it is already in development, it won't occur. The amount of time to make something like that means to you'd be waiting 5 plus years for it if it kicked off now.

Logged in to have a look at Guardian Games, promptly left. The light saber is fun, and I did enjoy this season, so will hope the forthcoming one is as good. Been enjoying some single player stuff

Driving to work thinking about some of the crews I rolled with, walking into some raids and dungeons for the first time, the many mysterious that the community pulled together to solve. I've got thousands of hours across the two games logged and while I haven't played since Edge of Fate it still sucks to see and has that weird feeling like a death in the family.

I wonder how much of this was Sony. They reserved a right to take over Bungie if certain criteria wasn't met. They already recorded and impairment loss on Bungie. Destiny collapsed post acquisition and Marathon is tanking.

The writing was on the wall when they went all in on Marathon, and it failed. I really like renegades, but you can't go 6 months with no content, again. Hopefully the way they set it up, it'll still be fun now and then to jump in, but I will miss the days of waiting for reset..

Sony bought bungie more for their live service knowledge than their IP. They'll sell the Destiny IP soon I rekon. Activision has a chance to do the funniest thing lol.

Played for a decade. It was a major part of my video game experience for a good chunk of my life.

Same us other, as I had stopped playing but weird knowing it is finally over with no sequel in the works. A lot of campaign stories forever lost and unplayable, I'd have given a lot just to have the story missions for 1 and 2 as a single player campaign to run through again.

Just kinda sad about it.

So I think I did the full rounds. I couldn't get through much of Datto, he got too emotional and it just wasn't good to watch. Divide kept it short and sweat, Byf got too dramatic but Fallout was really good. So was Paul Tassi. What's interesting is Tassi said he has actually known for a few weeks but it wasn't his business to report it and it was best for Bungie to do it in their own time. I think that checks out because I still occasionally click on some of the Destiny creators that appear in my Youtube feed even though I haven't played in a while I've always kept in touch with the game and he has been alluding to something like this a bit recently.

My absolute favourite is Cross from 27:25. I've always thought he's a classic when gets fully into character and this time just goes full copium 😂 he's taking the piss but it's why I've always watched his Destiny stuff

Bungie absolutely asleep at the wheel

That idea clearly connected with a lot of fans. Xivu Arath has been one of Destiny’s biggest unresolved villains for years, and many players have expected her to eventually get the same major treatment as Oryx, Savathun, or the Witness. She was even properly teased in one of the cinematics released during Episode Heresy.

But the most interesting part came in the replies.
Robert Brookes, a former Destiny 2 senior narrative designer, responded to the post by saying, “You’d be surprised how many times this was pitched for D2.” Brookes worked as a senior narrative designer on Destiny 2 from 2020 to 2024. His credits span from Beyond Light through Episode: Revenant, covering years of major narrative developments, seasonal arcs, and character-focused storytelling leading into and beyond The Final Shape.

Destiny 1 will always be a favourite, was actually my first game I ever played religiously online. Fortunate enough to have played with quite a few people on here. Many laughs and fun.

Even my first Nightfall (Abomination Heist) getting carried by a couple of guys from here, tin arsed a Ghally drop first go.

Wrath of the Machine was peak though, felt like really travelling one big area, music design too - Seige Engine - still headbang to that now and then. What a section of the raid.

Good times.

Then when Destiny 2 started to cater towards hardcore gamers and raids towards streamers, it sucked some of the fun out of the game for me. Which is ironic considering how hollow it was at launch) Finding non toxic fire teams became increasingly more difficult. If you missed a season - just felt like a chore to catch up and by that point people started to fall away.

Then Marathon entered development and was the beginning of the end.

I'm glad though I jumped back on for Final Shape though, Fireteam Finder was a great (but too late) addition to the game, and fortunate enough to find a chilled fun crew to do the GM 12 player mission. Was a good sign off to game (and really should have been the natural end point for it all)

One last thing, it's kinda crazy they voice talent they had in this game, not just great voice actors, but really good movie and tv ones as well. Very lucky in that regard.

Funny that the game ends with a Star Wars crossover of all things.

According to the Jason Schreier article Bungie have 0 projects green lit. Besides Marathon they have absolutely nothing in the oven. What's the odds of Bungie not even existing in 12 months. I hope Pete Parsons is happy with himself.
Sony are moving away from PC stuff, so anything they may do will probably be Sony only. Most probably right though, broken up and most sacked and a few kept. Damn shame

"why would you pay $3.6bn for a company and not take advantage of the single most important asset that company owns?" - Mactics

When you put it like that. Also pumping $300m into something like Concord but a Destiny 3 is apparently too expensive? There is no debate that Destiny has been on the slide since Final Shape but not only not having a Destiny 3 in production but making Bungie trim their most valuable asset for a flop like Marathon is a massive fumble by Sony. Just another of many fumbles they've been making to be honest.

Absolute fumble to not have a Destiny 3 in the works or ready to go.

Destiny wasn't even a well rated game or series critically when it came out yet sold incredibly well...How many companies stumble into a franchise like that and just let it die?
