When Clarko first came to the club and we had just finished 15th plus moved on Thompson our draftees ie Franklin, Lewis Roughead, Taylor were all thrown straight into the action with only 1 to 2 games a box hill. Now the next year when our draftees came we had a better structure allowing these players to spend time in the VFL for most of the season. Now we are seeing the emergence of Franklin, Lewis and Taylor as being solid contributors with Roughead still developing which way of developing players do you see as better?

We can now afford to develop our younger players via the traditional route, through our VFL affiliate Box Hill.

We had little choice with Buddy, Chief and Smooth, our list had just been decimated with the cleanout we had to have, and the only option was to get games into our list as quickly as possible.

Consequently, the aforementioned players should hit 50 games this year, and be considered a central part of our structure going forward, allowing us to play our younger recruits in peripheral roles.

Limiting the expectations on them in their early outings, and easing them into AFL football is a luxury we can finally afford. :thumbsu:

i no its a different era these days but dipper played around 100 games in the 2's and he turned out alright. however players like franklin have the natural ability to slot straight into the AFL and i think the VFL is the best way but we have to acknowledge that Franklin is an exception to EVERY rule
