How is that Fremantle never seem to dictate the play in the games they play?

It is always Fremantle adjusting to the oppositions tactics in order to get a result. For once I'd like to see us come out and force the opposition to play how we want them to play (maybe agst WCE we did this).

Just seems that we dont dictate too often.. Thoughts?

Exactly what my husband said this morning when discussing Fremantle with some non-member, but Freo supporting, friends. He believes we're reactive rather than proactive... and that in order to really go places we need to be proactive (read - get a more proactive coach) and dictate the way the game is played - especially at Subi.

I think a lot of it has to do with being so vulnerable to flooding and hard football over the years, that most teams really focus on not letting us get any room to run or play to our strengths.

We are improving in both areas and as much as Saturday night was incredibly frustrating, the Freo sides of old would never have had any chance of coming away with the four points. We've (the coaching staff) developed strategies to work through these tactics and when we do a get bit of room, we do start to dictate the play.

My two cents worth is that I think you need to have midfield dominance to dictate play. We lack the pace thru the middle to do so.

Slime, Crows, Colon Wood & Sydeneee all have dominast midfields = dictate play.

Flooding is what you are doing when you can't control the opposition, and you want to limit the damage. If Richmond were flooding we were dictating play. Add that to our turnovers and it's not that we are reactive but have carp skills.

From my limited view of the game it looked like we were still tending to bomb it long to the forward line hoping for a big mark, or missing targets. When we moved it quickly and hit somone on the lead we looked excellent. If Luke McPharlin could kick straight we would have been three or four up at the end of the first quarter.

It was good to hear Connolly on radio last night say that the next few drafts will be focused on running players

Heard that too. Personally I would have preferred if that policy had come in sooner. Like last year. I know Drum is rated highly by the club, but I would have thought that Higgins or Hurn would have been more beneficial.

yeah i think so too. Not so sure about Hurn,he looks a bit like Dunn to me,but Higgins looks very good
