Wink or no wink, that is the point. (Shakespeare eat your heart out. :) )

Most coaches will play the best available ruckman on the list.
If you have French that means he will get games ahead of rookies that may end up better, no matter what their potential is.
That is exactly what was happening between him and Brogan.
That is also the only reason a lot of us were "sort of" glad he went.

No offence but I would rather take a punt on someone like Mark Jamar who also comes out of the contract at the end of the year than I would on someone like French. Its better to play Hudson than it is to bring in French.

1. we don't know if jamar wants to come home
2. we don't know what the price would be
3. we need to someone to play while our junior ruck stocks develop, not add another junior ruckman.

the thinking would be that we need a guy to partner Biglands, add depth, whilst Andrews et al mature.

I wouldn't pay much for him, but I would not be surprised if we went after him.

If you don't ask you will never know.

This is Jamar's 3rd year in the system and come next year one would assume that he would be ready do become a back up ruckman. Chances are Jamar will develop to be a better player than French and is younger. Yes, chances are he would cost more than French but then again it would be worth it as you are potentially getting a 8-10 year player.

My point is that Jamar in his 4th year in the system would have developed enough to be a back up ruckman while he is still potentially a long term player. Lets face it we won't be much better off next year any way so why go for the quick fix?

Sorry:confused: I get very confused on this subject.

Brogen gets overlooked in the draft, trains with Adelaide, who decides not to list or rookie list him. - bad judgement there by the club.

Jamar, same, gets overlooked in draft, trains with Adelaide, who also decide to overlook him ( something about lack of mobility)
Now we want him and Brogan (if we could get him) when we had first dibs in the first place, at a fraction of the cost, it would cost us now:confused:

I won't mention other names in the same situation:(

Not sure about the Brogan circumstances BUT just on Jamar, who would you rather take Hentschel or Jamar because it was a decision between the 2 of them??????

We had a pre-season pick and we went with Hentschel and thinking we would take Jamar with our 1st pick in the rookie draft. Melbourne pounced before we had our pick.

Not sure if the timing coincides, but the Angwin situation had a domino affect on recruiting decisions, we may have changed, if we had known that Angwin was going to fall of the tree.
Using the 3 year rule on recruits, Angwin would have established now, and with Watts, we wouldnt't have been having the conversations we're having on our bigman deficiencies.

I don't think it would have changed our thinking because AFC always rated Hentschel very highly especially after he did the pre-season with us. They couldn't stop raving on about him. Angwin quit about a week after the pre-season draft. Had he quit before the draft I doubt we would have done anything different. We still would have kept him on in a hope of getting some compensation for him.

I said at the time, Angwin will cost this club more than we could have imagined. Pitty really, such a talent gone to waist and you are right, had he come on we wouldn't be having discussions that we are having now.

Didn't we have a spare pick in the pre-season draft where AFC were mulling over whether or not to pick Jamar & instead we ran 1 short? That's how I recall it.

I don't think so. We had 1 pick in the pre-season draft and we selected Hentschel with it. A week later Angwin quits and we went the whole year with 39 players. We could have delisted Angwin but we decided to keep him on the list in a hope of getting some compensation for him.

Hmm, must of remembered incorrectly, as I thought we have gone in with 2 spare spots going into the last few pre-season drafts.

I hope so.

Other South Aussie ruckmen are Luke Darcy and Mark Jamar.

Any others??
Doyle from Sydney is another ruckman, but did Jars say ruckman or big man?

Doyle would make sense, and wouldn't be a bad pick up.

Well if it could be a KPP, then it is a much bigger list - Pavlich & Wellman (unlikely now), Hollands & Kinear (bloody hope not), Harley, Shultz, James, Harris, etc

Now we're talking :D

Porthos, IMHO, Doyle has good potential as a ruckman and is still very young BUT he breaks down all the bloody time. He spends more time in medical rooms than he does on the footy field. Poor man's version of Ryan Fitzgerald (as far as injuries go)

You would think so, but we would have to give up heaps to get him.
Burton+ perrie and maybe a second rounder.
AGAIN if any player wants to come home he will, the recieveng state has the bargaing power.
Burton = fittest player going and worth heaps as trade.
Sarge = KPP.

If it is Ottens we will make a huge play for him. I have no doubt.

Ottens kills two birds with one stone. We have short term concerns up forward and in the ruck.

As jc67 has suggested, if he wants to come to Adelaide then that's in our bargaining favour. Also is the fact that his performances have been short of his repuatation in recent years. Can only help in bargaining.

Richmond would probably want a first round (and more) and we'll probably give them that but I agree with some of the suggestions. Burton, Perrie, I'd even throw Goodwin into the mix. I'd certainly prefer to give up any of those before our first round pick, which will certainly be a top 10 the way we are going.
