If Ottens is the player expect Port to play a part in the negotiations.
Even more so with Williams as the coach.
Imagine a team with four starting ruckmen.
Five if Ackland can average 1.2 goals per game in the SANFL.

After all, his favourite play is A ruckman for all positions.

If it is Ottens we will make a huge play for him. I have no doubt.

Ottens kills two birds with one stone. We have short term concerns up forward and in the ruck.

As jc67 has suggested, if he wants to come to Adelaide then that's in our bargaining favour. Also is the fact that his performances have been short of his repuatation in recent years. Can only help in bargaining.

Richmond would probably want a first round (and more) and we'll probably give them that but I agree with some of the suggestions. Burton, Perrie, I'd even throw Goodwin into the mix. I'd certainly prefer to give up any of those before our first round pick, which will certainly be a top 10 the way we are going.

Would be great to snag Ottens, but there is no way we lose Goody unless you want to also lose our best player too.

We will trade our 1st pick. Believe me:(
If Ottens wants to come to the Crows, should trade a 2nd rounder + a player. Perhaps they would like JT back. :p

I remain very sceptical that Ottens wants to leave Richmond. Even if he did, I'm even more sceptical that he wants to leave Melbourne and play with the Crows.

But, hypothetically, how much are people prepared to pay for him?
(As opposed to what people want to pay)
Imo, it will take at least a first round pick + player. No deal without a first round pick. Richmond will want that after what they paid for Kane Johnson.

Ottens is still the one of the most talented bigs in the league and it will cost, as everyone knows this.

price will be determined by where we finish at the end of the season, if we are near the bottom we might be able to get a McPharlin like bargain, but unlikely.

Richmond will not give him up for Burton and a 2nd rounder - no way, no how. what's in it for them? they will want things that make them better in the long or short term. They can convinced that Ottens is leaving, and some draft picks is the way forward sure, and/or some young talent. Swapping Burton for Ottens in no way makes richmond better. big for small ain't gonna happen. If we trade birdman better to someone who needs his type more.
Now which young victorians do we have that have been a little slow to develop, but have enough talent to still have good value on them. Reilly + a 1st might get it done. doesn;t have to be our 1st. Normally big for small wouldn't work, but burton is a mature player without the promise of further development, teams are always seduced by potential. Reilly is a young piece who could make them better in the future, and the 1st round could net a player who would make them better.

Plus Richmond would rather a vic player surely?

If the price is wrong, them maybe we need to consider if we want Ottens. But if we want him, he will cost outside our comfort zone, which all trade scenarios suggested have not broken out of yet.

We'll take Burton. Will a second rounder do, or should we throw in Chris Hall too?
