In keeping with what has become a popular theme in recent times on this wonderful board which contains so many intelligent posters, I would like to put out another "Health" question.

I have lived a rather tough lifestyle in recent months (could even say a year or more) in that I have drank hard, and ate whatever i felt like, while also pumping weights. In the past I never put on weight no matter what, but when i started hitting the gym and stopped playing soccer/futebol I put on a few kilos. While my chest and arms are a decent size i would like to lose a bit of weight around my gut region as well as get more cut.

So tell me boys and girls, whats a good diet plan to follow? If possible i would like recommended foods for breakfast/lunch/tea and snacks if applicable. Food which will give me energy to work on my guns as well as losing a couple of kilos. I did start cardio a few weeks ago, which involved running and bike riding, but when i went away i stopped that, but will start again tomorrow.

Hope that was clear enough. Thanks in advance :thumbsu:

In keeping with the theme of BF I will completely ignore the thrust of your post and use your heading to boast

After filling myself with bay marie food for the last 4 years and hitting my peak of 110kgs I decided it was time

No Bay Marie food
No Iced Coffees :(
No pies or pasties
No hot coffee
Minimal butter and bread
Minimal cheese and milk
Minimal fatty foods and sweets

Basically have been on a diet of fruit and steamed vegetables and fish/chicken and minimal red meat. Also summer salad food ie carrots, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, capsicum etc

Since Jan 23 I have lost 5kg but more importantly my stomach has shrunk .

Along with walking and some exercise equipment work I feel good and aim for another 3-5 kg in the next 3 weeks. Then a holiday for 2 weeks then aim for another 10kg and then who knows.

How does this diet stack up? I dont play competitive sport anymore and my work is sedentary based. To me the important thing is to lose my stomach shape , basically I am happy with the rest of my shape.

high protein low carb diets are good. Don't eat white bread and potatoes. Pasta is okay as is brown rice but only one serving a day. Avoid drinking too much alcohol, especially beer as it's very fattening.

Of course eat lots of fruit and vegetables (especially green ones). To get your metabolism going in the morning squeeze a lemon into a cup and add luke warm water. Actually all the water you drink should be body temerature.

Apparently green tea is good too.

yes i think my beer intake will have to be cut down to once a week

PerthCrow i have also quit Iced Coffee which is very depressing as that used to be my way of waking up :(

nicky: body temp water? i drink about 2l a day but its cold from either fridge or those water cooler things i get delivered

i've been told many times from different people that people should be drinking luke warm water. I used to drink freezing water but i've changed to drinking luke warm water and its fine.

Nice.

I was talking about losing weight with a family friend (who is a doctor) recently, and he was saying that you should be aiming for 60g of fat or less per day. So yes, that means you can eat a big mac (24g) if you really feel like one, so long as you don't go too far past that 60g barrier. In time and with exercise you should see your weight go down.

Found it interesting, not that I'm trying to lose weight myself but will keep it in mind for when I'm middle aged and out of shape!

One of the issues I feel a lot of dieters face is they think it has to be strict. I had an ice cream today because I wanted one. I had a bag of chips last week for the same reason ... I am not allowing myself to walk a thin line that I may fall off and feel guilty.

I think you have to eat some things you enjoy, or you will go nutty. Like you said, eating an ice cream here, or a pack of chips there, wont completely ruin your diet unless you go overboard of course.

Plus I believe it makes you work harder, like today you eat an ice cream, tomorrow if you work out you push that little bit extra because you allowed yourself a 'bad' food the day before so you have to push harder and earn it. That's just the way I feel about it anyway.

How do you handle the taste though? I can drink it but I dont really enjoy it, while i think ice cold water tastes supoib.

the thing with cold water is that it goes straight through you, because its cold the body works extra hard to warm it up and turn it into urine, therefore speeding up the process, thus making u pee more.
room temperature water is a lot better to drink as it takes longer to go thru the body and therefore leaves u better hyrdated.

I eat whatever I want whenever I want but I'm not overweight. I have that metoblism thing where you eat heaps but put on no weight :D

However, over the years (well over the last 2 really) I have been drinking consistently every weekend, smoking and eating a lot of junk food. It sucks because I try to give up eating all this junk food but whenever I get on the turps, I always feel like fatty foods so I eat junk which ruins my plans to stay off the junk crap.

I'm not going to be giving up drinking any time soon as thats how we socialise and I've been brought up around alcohol. I can't see myself giving that up. I just need a way to stop eating so much junk food. As I've said I've tried giving it up cold turkey and just not eating at all but that hasn't worked. I also plan to give up smoking.

Need to stop this junk food it is making me very unhealthy! :thumbsd: :thumbsd:

I was reading a site based on Chinese diets and they said something that really struck a chord with me.

You eat something warm or spicy hot and your body gets heated up which aids metabolism and you suddenly douse the flames with a cold drink... makes sense to me

what exactly are the benefits of lukewarm water?

hahahaha lol, you've got me there because i cannot tell you as i have no idea. I used to live with this girl who studied 'natropathy' and her and i would have an endless (all in fun) war over keeping the water on the bench or fridge. I liked it cold and she insited cold water wasn't good for you. Anyway since then i've come accross a few health nuts who agree with her and i've been persuaded without asking them the benefits :D

It has something to with water being body temperature.... ah i don't know...

Yep, it's full of antioxidants which means it will lower your blood sugar and reduce high blood pressure.

well atleast one of us knows the scientific reason, you wouldn't happen to know about the benefits of drinking 'luke warm water' as opposed to 'cold water'

Got no clue.

Hang on, i'll Google it....

Cold water affects you when you have a stomach full of food. The enzymes in the stomach only work at its normal temp so when you douse it with cold water it affects digestion.

while out and about at the local shoppery this morning i picked up a couple of magazines abour exercise and diet
one had a complete diet mapped out for 1 week (which a couple of options for each meal to avoid boredom) another had a few footy players (diff forms of football) and their fitness routines
ive been looking for something like this for ages
