Digital Set Top Box Help

Well in the last week we bought a check $100 DSE Set Top Box..

Now what happens is you put a patch on it from the compter to upgrade it. It goes through all the fixes and upgrades it successfully.

Now what has happened is all the channels are correct. Channel 7 = 7, 9 = 9 etc.. however, when it comes to SBS we cant see anything on 28. Not one channel shows SBS coverage.

We have searched manually for 28 and cant find anything aswell as done a normal search.

Any ideas how we can find SBS. Anyone know the signal or whatever for it?

Would be a really big help..

Im missing out on the Olympics :(

Sure have.. much sharper. I dont have a widescreen so a digital set top box for $100 was worth it - you wouldnt want to pay anymore..

Sound is also better IMO..

Does SBS have Digial though? They could be the problem.

Yes they do have a Digital Channel. Before we installed the download it was fine.. we got all the SBS channels.. now we dont get any.

If it WAS working, then it may be a firmware issue - do you know if there's a way you can step back to the version you were on?

Wouldnt think you could take the patch off, no.

And KingyOrTheKing, correct me if im wrong but none of the Standard Definition Boxes support HDTV.. isnt that the point?

You should have spent the extra cash on getting a HD set top box, rather than a SD one. This is the sort of thing that happens when people are too cheap and settle for mediocrity. If you want quality, you have to pay for it!!

The problem is if you spend that money on a HD box when the TV you plug it into will only support SD resolution, its ends up a waste of money!

You just don't buy a HD-box for an SD-TV... you get one for a HD-ready TV. Besides that there is a $400+ gap between an Standard box and a HD box.

How do you know if it is HD-ready or not? Mine is a Sharp 30 inch LCD panel, which is pretty new. That would be HD-ready, yeah?

I can get HD set top boxes for < $500.

I just had to check up on that through the Sharp Australia website and it doesn't say. The tech support couldn't give me a straight answer either.

You need to check the connections on the set... have a look at the 'Component Video' inputs. If those inputs also say '576p/1080i', then your set is indeed HD ready. If you are not sure... consult your manual.

The component plugs are Red, Green & Blue.
