Ok, got your attention..:)

I am in the market for a tablet/ipad and I want to know the best there is as it stands......

Which way should I go

I have just been thru this and went the Ipad route. IOS is a good deal more evolved and from a business perspective things like activesync for exchnge is superb. It's bloody woeful on the Honeycomb offerings. I also looked further than just the Ipad - IOS 5 will bring the ipod, iphone and ipad together with respect to unified messaging and the airplay integration with appletv is just awesome. I don't think the Android offerings have anything like it.

i'll let you know when i get my transformer in a day or two.
as for honeycomb tablets, the galaxy tab 10.1 (newer one coming out) will be lighter and thinner than the ipad. importing the transformer works out very cheap.

in australia the xoom comes out soon, the iconia tab is already out.
in reality it depends on what ecosystem you want. the more polished closed system of apple. or androids open system where you can customise it a lot better. remember with android the honeycomb tablets function quite a bit differently to the phone OS

I looked at th Iconia - it had a big split on the side seam where someone in the shop had dropped it. Turned me right off it and i wondered why the salesman would even offer it up for demo in that state.

I have been told that Android supports USB and also can download whereas Ipad can't.

Is that the case?

The Iconia has a usb port - I don't think the Galaxy does. The Ipad has a usb adaptor that is primarily for cameras (sd card as well) but people have plugged in usb keyboards and skype phones and have them work.

You can transfer and store files and documents on the Ipad but you can't download them yet (I think).

honeycomb 3.1 will allow USB host controller, so you will be able to plug in external hard drives and other peripherals and it will recognise them.

you can pair a ps3/xbox controller to it!

he was less subtle with the usb post.

anyway, easy to see a mile off that he's a DB.
Hey guys, steady, steady....where's the love:confused::confused:

OK, it's no secret that I have no affection for the forbidden fruit BUT after chatting with a few people in regards to ipads, I was interested to get a feel for the differences between ios and android as I haven't even bothered to venture there yet with either(not worth my while).

I have a netbook which does everything I need and probably more (yep W7....no viruses yet;)).

I am looking at Tablets to see whether they fulfill my needs and from what i'm hearing, I doubt it..

The heart of the thread was to get a bit of info....the fun was winding you Appleites into a mini frenzi....I do enjoy that.........:)

Hey, Hey, hey... this is getting hard....am I even close????

I think it stands for..Done Bad....:thumbsu:

If you want a gorgeous interface and flexibility you will have to wait for the Windows 8 tablets next year.
I've been reading about it recently, it is looking the goods :thumbsu:

That was what I was hoping for, a Tab running W8:D...

I think I can wait for a little while :)

Motorolla XOOM or Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

iPad is mehtastic.

ps tablets suck

Really - A XOOM. Can you even get them here in Aus yet.

Anyway I don't think tablets suck. I have easily been able to replace my Laptop with an Ipad which I carry with me thru the working day. The reason I bought Ipad is because the Laptop never got used. Too hard to carry around in the car, charge if it needed it, deal with hibernation issues etc. The Ipad is always on and I just plug it into the radio if it needs a charge. I can have a customer invoice half done whilst the Laptop is still resuming.

It was cheaper than a Laptop and the associated software by a fair way as well so I reckon it is way ahead.

I guess the biggest dilemma I have at the moment is, I have a perfectly good netbook that whilst being a bit heavier than the average tab, is in fine working condition, has a perfectly good and fully functional OS and does everything I need and replace it with a tab that as it stands in both flavours ios and android cannot provide the same capabilities as what I currently have...

It's sooooo hard :(

Oh, I almost forgot....only cost me $250!!

I understand that you're trolling but what do you actually need it to do. For $250 it's probably running Win 7 starter and has a pretty crappy processor. Are you connecting to Corporate email accounts and using word, excel etc and did they come free with the machine?
