Correct, we see BIRDS every day. Birds having evolved from the 'saurs.

No human has ever seen the creatures they evolved from.

Actually, Bombers 2003 may correct me on this, but the way I understand is that all species that are derived from the first species that is considered to be a 'dinosaur' are defined as dinosaurs. In that case, all birds are dinosaurs.

I *think* it's called the cladistic system of classification.

 That's the first I've heard of that. It sounds more like creationist rhetoric to me.

Loved dinos as a kid--from about six to nine (...) I lived, breathed, read and drew them. I knew most of the families' latin names, knew all of the classifications (bird hipped, lizard hipped, sauropods, theropods, etc...), and knew most of their specs.

I'm turning 19 this year but have a little brother who's five, and it's my duty as a brother to teach him all I know about dinosaurs. He's already pretty knowledgeable. He'll point out that 'T rex and triceratops and velociraptors aren't from the Jurassic!' when watching JP.

My two year old nephew is fascinated by them, his room is adorned with posters and he has all sorts of dinosaur models.

It’s particularly adorable hearing him recite all the various species, and being able to identify them as well.

Not so cute is his tendency to pounce on unsuspecting house guests and attempt to tear their ear off, as if he were a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Ah well….

Indeed that is correct,it's the cladistic system. But as i said earlier, not all palaeontologists agree with birds being descended from Dinosaurs,it's a general consensus.

Not at all,i think if you read Storrs Olsen's work or Hopsons work you'd know.

Being in the same monophyletic is not the same as being in the same species, so being in the dinosaurs' monophyletic is not the same as being a dinosaur.
Correct, and that's where people confuse Plesiosaurs and Pterosaurs as Dinosaurs. No use talking of Orders,Families etc either, most people dont understand the concepts.

I didn't mean they were all the same species. I meant derived from the same common ancestor. Probably should have used that term rather than 'species'... but oh well.

Certainly not going to see me spreading any Creationist claptrap.

(By the way, I hope you've put the knives away)

just did a quick google search for JP4 and i came across an article that says Kiera Knightly will be in it and its set for a late 2006 release, but the article was written in 2003 so who knows! :(

It also says the movie wont be set on an island which sux, only the first JP was watchable. The second movie was nothing like the book and was just terrible, and the third i wont even comment on!
But i'll still see the 4th if its released ;)
