I dislocated my kneecap at soccer tonight (Friday) and have spent the last five hours in the hospital. Has this happened to anyone on here before? If so, what kind of activities am I limited to until the aching goes away? When can I run again? Is there any kind of weight training I can do to make the ligaments and muscles stronger?

My left kneecap is as dodgy as - has come out on more than one occasion. All I have to do these days is cross my legs the wrong way and bam, it packs its bags, kisses the rest of the knee on the cheek and jets off on a holiday to the other side of my leg.

I can't really tell you anything about the pain, the strengthening or whatever (go to your GP), but if it happens again - and you've increased the odds substantially after your first one - straighten your leg as quickly as possible and it will go back in.

Don't do the old Cresswell/Mark Stevens slappy slappy to knock it back in, all you have to do is straighten your leg.

I play rugby, so dislocation isn't rare to me obviously.

Take the kneecap injury into account, it'll only make you stronger. Excessive jogging and leg-weights is a must after your knee is back to normal.

It was back in in under a minute, but the referee slapped it back in for me. It's surprisingly not hurting all that much right now.
