The most important player to any club over the past 10 years has to be the great jason jackmos. The hawks have struggled since he was asked to leave the club.

Yup Red Gum .... Billy was a very, very good player. Did not see him play too many bad ones - either when we played them or reading each week in the record. Won a comp B&F did he not?

He did. In D3 and D4. Great player and great bloke.

Prahran / Assumption are clearly an excellent D3 side and thoroughly deserve to be undefeated on top of the ladder. They have several very good players and I'll take nothing away from them... but (you knew there was a but didn't you?)

If they have 10 Bill Irvings in their side I'll eat my hat.

Have an update Chump. The books have been replaced this year by a couple of gorillas:eek:

Really Wamba .......how does a gorilla help you read? :D

I actually went and listened to Dr Jane Goodall at a function at the Zoo last month. Maybe she should have headed down to that way to discuss how you feed, house and look after gorillas?

I do hear that gorillas have always been well looked after at Orrong Nature reserve!!

Watch this space......could get closed down late in the season.

Chump.

Progressive 42 from 60.
Yarra Valley vs Mt Lilydale - 88 points.
Albert Park vs Prahran Assumption - 55 points.
UHS-VU vs Monash Gryphons - 8 points.
West Brunswick vs Hawthorn - 23 points.
Power House vs Elsternwick - 34 points.
Kew vs Ivanhoe - 10 points.

Progressive 47 from 66.

Much better tipping last week with 5 from 6. I cannot ever seem to pick when the erratic Hawthorn are going to win or lose.

Elsternwick vs UHS-VU - 12 points. After a slow start Elsternwick are right back in the mix. If it wasn't for letting so many goals through at the start of the season could have been in the 5. Lately seem to have fixed some of the back line issues. Healy will continue his great season and should take out the club B&F. UHS-VU will fancy themselves and will need to if they want to stay in finals contention. Could possibly have a gun starting soon but that wont change their fortunes.

Mt Lilydale vs Monash Gryphons - 22 points. I feel for Monash tomorrow. 11 degrees, showers and windy at Mt Lilydale. It wont be pleasant. I expect Mt Lilydale will want to come out firing but wont have enough to contain the Gryphons. Fletcher to have a field day in the mud.

Albert Park vs Kew - 36 points. If we called the season end now, Kew would end up with the most improved trophy. I think that wont satisfy them and with 7 games to go would prefer something better in their trophy cabinet. Maybe a second runner up? If the weather is not too bad Brazzale should have a field day. Haven't seen Murchie on the track in awhile and AP could do with a helping hand.

Hawthorn vs Ivanhoe - 44 points. Williams was back in the best again last week and will teach Hawthorn a footballing lesson this week. I can't see the Hawks winning many more games which will put them in the relegation zone. I can't say I'll be too sad if it happens.

Power House vs West Brunswick - 3 points. With only 2% separating these teams it's a flip of the coin who will win today. Whoever wants it the most on the day will win this. Neither team has any goal kickers except for Eddo from the House. Once again he could be the difference. WB Brunswick kicked their highest score for the year last week so suspect they might be on the improve. MacGugan now forward to help Anton win the match... just.

Prahran Assumption vs Yarra Valley - 10 points. Match of the round. I'm pretty excited about this contest. Recent form(I don't count the Rams flogging) would suggest YV are slightly off their game but will come out guns blazing for this one. Will be some great match ups. Both teams have great defenses(YV slightly better in my opinion) and have plenty of options up forward(Prahran slightly better in my opinion). So will come down to who can win in the guts. Two Blues on top in this area and will come away with the win.

Can someone going to this game update the @VAFACOMM twitter feed? Would be great to get score updates as wont be able to make this game.

Craig Williams was seen out at Mt Lillydale training last night with his umbrella poking at the ground, the report is a Penetrometre reading of 5.53 and a Heavy 10 rating.

Players will be running wide to avoid the worst of the slop.

Round 12 and, without wanting to state the obvious, it's starting to get desperate for some teams.

Elsternwick vs UHS-Vu
Mt Lilydale vs Monash Gyphons
Albert Park vs Kew
Hawthorn vs Ivanhoe
Power House vs West Brunswick
Prahran vs Yarra Valley

God luck to all and enjoy the conditions !

I see that the Big V squad does not have a representative from D3, obvioulsy the big 1 vs 2 clash has taken precedence as I'm sure both sides would have had a rep!!

Does that mean we can expect as close to full strength sides barring injuries of course? Might be worth while heading down to get a glimpse of what could repeat in a number of weeks time.

In saying that i will stick with Prahran on their home turf by 10 points.

Round 11 Preview

Yarra over Rams by 92 Pts (Perhaps last week was the loss the Bushrangers had to have – a la Paul Keating – but if they have their kicking boots on, this could get ugly. Tough luck for the Mountain Men, playing the top two in consecutive weeks and it’s not like their percentage can afford to drop any further. Whatever the margin in this match, you can bet your life Stoney put his chargers through hell on the track, so I expect Yarra to come out firing and have the game in the bag by quarter time. Xavier Nowicki to be prominent).

Prahran over AP by 53 Pts (The Four Blues have yet to have had a ‘down’ game all year and this seems to be the difference between the Top 2. What motivates them week in week out is the secret potion all clubs are striving for, but no doubt they have the best depth going around so they are able to rotate weary bodies with much aplomb. The Falcons had a strong away win last weekend but are eons behind the Blues in talent. Surely they cannot provide an upset, but after last week, what do any of us know?).

UHS-VU over Monash by 2 Pts (Who knows which Uni High will turn up? The power finals side we saw last round or the rank relegation threatened outfit that played for them for most of June. For that matter, Monash have been out of form lately themselves and cannot afford to drop this one. A win to the Gryphs will place them three wins plus percentage ahead of 5th, so the stakes are high. Monash will be buoyed by the return of Dan Baxter across half-back. It has been no coincidence that their two worst performances for the season have been when he is not present. Wells v Kirk will be a crucial battle. Neither likes having their colours lowered so I expect a Carey vs. Jackovich style nullification. Therefore, like most contests the game will be won by the victor of the contested ball, an area that Monash were crucially poor at, against the Wicks. UHS just in this crucial ‘8 pointer’, but this was a flip of the coin in the extreme!).

West over Hawks by 3 Pts (Another one that is impossible to pick. All logic sits with the Hawks knocking off the cellar-dwellers, but I have selected the Magpies for weeks now and as soon as I get off, they will undoubtedly win. Both teams struggled to kick a score last week so on the current D3 logic, expect a shootout 21 goals to 20! Chris Germon to be amongst the best for West).

Wicks over the House by 21 Pts (I am now unofficially a Wicks fan after canning them all season, so expect them to start losing again. However, if they can stop Paul Edwards – or at least his supply – they will have no trouble here. Powerhouse are heading for the dreaded relegation zone in a hurry, whereas the Wicks could out of the five only by % come Saturday night, something beyond even their wildest dreams a month back. Declan Healy to star for the visitors).

Kew over Ivanhoe by 3pts (What a game to finish round 12! A month back and the Hoe’s would’ve pencilled in a victory, but the Bears – like the Wicks – are a team on the rise and may do just enough at home to win. The Hoe’s were magnificent in defence against Yarra Valley, but may not be able to contain the likes of Andrew Brazzale who is the centrepiece of an emerging potency up forward for the Bears. Should be a thriller and once again is an ‘8 pointer’ for the away side. Mick Cochrane to be best afield).

Round 11 Review

4/6 (40/66 cumulative) was a far more respectable result in a round that promised much and delivered even more!

Absolute thrillers at Princes & Victoria Parks’ (I’m sounding like Peter Landy) where the ramifications were even more telling than the contest themselves. You would expect nothing less in such ‘8 point games’, heartbreak for the Bears and Uni High, but the slightly more polished Hoes and Gryphons showed exactly why they are in the four, they simply win the close ones. Nothing in the contest at Kew all day and both teams had ample chance to win, Nick Godfrey’s four in a low scoring affair was crucial. Clint Mackie was similarly the hero at Monash with a snap for goal in the dying seconds that just made it over the line before being touched by a desperate UHS-VU defence. The Gryphons and Hoes are now virtually assured of finals action, while the others all chase the final spot. 5th to 12th can all still technically make the finals or be relegated although in reality one would have to argue that it is three – Wicks, Bears and UHS – playing for one and the rest trying to avoid the drop. Hawthorn will most likely threaten neither and are in limbo. The top two continue to please themselves. The ruthlessness of the Bushrangers early on – as predicted – left the Mountain Men demoralized and hence they threw in the towel early, while the Blues never really clicked, but still won by 94 points. Go figure…

Round 12 Preview

Wicks over UHS-VU by 15 Pts (Elsternwick’s form is too good – 4 in a row – not to select them here but one feels they will not have it all their own way. Uni High were desperately unlucky against Monash and are still a most competitive side. A source close to the club also indicated to me that they are to unveil the major recruiting coup for the season in coming weeks. Apparently he is the best player in D3, but I have heard that one countless time before. In all seriousness, I feel that the Wicks disciplined play will thwart UHS’ sorties forward and they will hang on. Brian Mahony to be best afield).
Monash over Rams by 11 Pts (I see this as a real danger game for the Gryphs after their awesome win last week. Coming down from a high to play a team on the bottom of the table on their swamp – been raining all week in the Yarra Valley – is not what coach Osborne would see as ideal preparation as we approach the finals. Expect the Mountain Men to be most fiery if things do not go their way and if they have a bit of luck, they are right in this. Monash do normally win the close ones, so I will have to stick with them with Daniel McConville relishing the conditions).
Kew over Albert Park by 21 Pts (The vagaries of the draw in our section suggest that the Bears have the easiest run of the three teams on five wins, so they may be prone to be being lazy in their approach to this. However their form has been sound and players of the calibre of Brazzale and Tinetti will ensure the Falcons remain precarious placed in or around the drop zone).
Hoes over the Hawks by 31 Pts (Hawthorn have been perhaps the most inconsistent side in the competition. Their best has been good, but they have leaked goals like a sieve and cannot be selected with any confidence. These two teams met at Hoe Park just 5 weeks back with Ivanhoe scoring comfortably. Can’t see the Hawks reversing that result, but I expect the margin to be a little closer as Rathmines is often tricky for visitors. Jimmy Collins and Eilan Healy were amongst the best in late May, so why not expect the same again).
House over West by 10 Pts (Who knows who will come up trumps in this one? My gut feel is to stick with the Pies as they had a resounding win last weekend and were the victors when these two clashed at McAlister. However, Powerhouse were more than competitive against the Wicks and simply have to win fixtures such as this if they are to stay up. Whoever fails at Ross Gregory is up against it in terms of the relegation stakes and I feel this is more likely to be West. Paul Edwards to bag a ‘Half D’).
Four Blues over YV by 22 Pts (Match of the day although most would contend that this is merely round 2 of 4 likely contests between these heavyweights in 2011. It was Prahran that held off the fast finishing Bushrangers in April at Park Orchards, so I see no reason how this could differ at Toorak Park. The best players are normally the ones who step up in the big matches, so expect big games from many or all of Christoforo, Sleight, Furness, McIntyre and Pell. Yarra cannot afford to go defensive at any stage as this will simply play into the Blues’ hands and will need huge games from the Yeo boys and Cam Britt. I’m sure they’ll look the winner at some stage but the class of Prahran will ultimately prevail).

Good luck to all

Quasi

Progressive 42 out of 66 ( got 6 last week) need a few more 6's to move up the leader board

Tips for Round 12

Elsternwick 25 points
Monash Gryphons 15 points -will be a low scoring affair in the bog
Kew 18 points
Ivanhoe 48 points
Power House 8 points
Prahran 22 points - should be a cracker of a game

Anyone at the Grand final preview match on Sat? Yarra v Prahran. Give us an analysis.
Scores suggest is was another cracker between these 2 sides.
Yes Johnny I was there and saw the battle. It was tight all day and Prahran were headed briefly by YV 1/2 way thru the last quarter but fought back to hold on. Both defences were on top all day and there was a battle royal fought between the onballers of both sides. PA sustained early injuries (one guy taken off on a stretcher concussed) and their FF also went off early injured. Very little separate these teams and injuries will start to play a part and test their depth. They both face danger games next week and it wouldn't surprise me if one or both lost given the effort they put in Saturday. IMO D3 footy standard has improved immensely since the start and there appears to be a few clubs gathering momentum and I'm starting to think that PA & YV will not have it all their own way as we head towards finals. PA now have a 3 game buffer so might revert to 'list management'. YV were still impressive though...

Was that Sleight or Christoforo? Did it look like a serious injury? They wouldnt want to loose either of those 2 guys.
Interesting games this week. Elsternwick seem to be on a roll. But they have the top 3 sides in the next 3 weeks.

Good to see the Hoes get over the line against a much improved Hawthorn from the week before.

We still have a lot out but the ones who are out there just keep getting the job done.

Good to see young Bob Marley jag three majors in the last!!!

I didn't see what exactly happened but it was Cristoforo...wasn't limping so may have been precautionary...Sleight kicked 2 in the last to seal it....

Well here we go. The last six rounds will sort out this division.

Yarra Valley host Elsternwick. The visitors will remember the last visit to Park Orchards and will, no doubt wish to attain for their game last year. Expect a tough game from the 'wicks. Bushrangers will want to reduce risk of injury so I'm tipping a close game. Gotta go with home side, just.

Prahran visit East Caulfield Reserve for the first time and with Adrian Flowerday in fine form might get more than they bargain for. I'm going with the Gryphs to upset the juggernaut.

Ivanhoe host Power House. House form hard to pick. Hoes just.

UHS VU v Albert Park. Where's Jason Murchie? The Falcons have hit form. Will hit the students with bigger bodies. No room for small running on ballers here.Falcons.

Kew v West Brunswick. Bears, sorry 'pies.

Hawhorn v MtLilydale. Rathmines catering crew to pull out that old spit roast machine (possibly responsible for burning down their club rooms) and serve Souvlaki on Sat night.
