7 out of 10 for me. Very good in some areas. Waltz was superb. Didn't like the over-the-top white guilt; there was a point where everyone in the room laughed when DiCaprio's sister in the film got blown through to the next room by Django, and when he murdered in cold blood the traders near the end of the film. I thought it undermined his hero status, which to those points was brilliant.

Loved the first two hours but it was a bit long and the finale just went for two many cheap laughs. It was great entertainment for the average consumer but above that I thought the climax was thematically disappointing.

Entertaining, excellent in parts especially when we're introduced to Waltz's character. But at same time a bit juvenile the way the bad guys are all disposed of as at the end of Inglorious Basterds. What's next, setting in South Africa during apartheid and wiping out all the baddies? There's a sense of it's all too easy to wish this stuff.

Thought Waltz's character at the start was a bit too similar to Landa in IB even the accent. Reason for doing what he did for Django didn't wash. Jackson's character was good a bit shallow.

Nice cameos from Nero, Dern and Don Johnson and thought the music fitted well even though some may have thought a strange choice.

Amazing. DiCaprio was something else, such a despicable character - outshone Waltz even... 9 out of 10 for me, the scene with the aussies was a bit stupid, but hey in 3 hours there is bound to be a few misses.

I loved Inglourious Basterds, but for me this was his best film since Pulp Fiction.

def agree. the holes in the bag scene left me in stitches.

quickly has become one of my favourites.

Actually thought tarantino's aussie accent was really good. Gotta remember back then aussie's acent would have been alot more 'aussie'. And yeah as pointed out earlier the other aussie bloke was john Jarret so his accent was pretty spot on id say. Was really funny bit of the movie.

In fact, the broad Australian accent is mostly down to 'Chips' Rafferty and the films he made in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. If anything, the Australian accent of that time would have been more Irish than anything else. Up until Rafferty's influence, the Australian accent was a far more neutral version of English, once it lost its Irish lilt. The effect of the Barry McKenzie films on the maintenance of the Rafferty school of the Australian accent cannot be overstated.
 
I love how Aussies assume that our accent has always sounded as it is. Even 50 years ago, at least in broadcast media, it was discernably different. The Django accent is probably not too far off.

Me too. But on the other hand I can see if people saw that scene as cringe worthy too- i dunno.

What would be everyones top 5 Tarantino movies (i know there arent many).
Mine would be:
1. Kill Bill 2
2. Kill Bill 1
3. Pulp Fiction
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. Reservior Dogs

Django wouldnt make it in- maybe I have to see it again, but theres something about the film I didnt quite like (or possibly get, lol)
 
Thought the same as I've thought of every Tarantino movie bar Reservoir Dogs.

Boring. Repetitive. Dull. Unnecessary. Tarantino's turning into Tim Burton in that he makes the same movie every time.

Christoph Waltz however was fantastic. Could watch him all day.

Funny, I think Reservoir dogs was dull and boring and love everything else he's done

8/10 for me. It was a movie that I thought about a lot afterwards too.

Christoph Waltz is excellent. Foxx was ok. DiCaprio was very good.

I found Samuel L Jackson's character pretty annoying but I'd have to say it was well acted.

I think Tarantino just portrays a stylized over the top version of slavery though, but that is clearly his intention.

Like some other posters here I wondered what will be next now that he's covered the Nazis, black slave owners. Maybe a film about Jesus I guess, with Christoph Waltz as Judas or something. That would be interesting.

5. Death Proof

Haven't seen True Romance or Inglorious Basterds. Might get them for hire this weekend, as well as seing Django.

So, I'm a bit of a Tarantino n00b, only seen a few of his flicks.

But I absolutely LOVED this. Thought it was fantastic, fantastically acted, the actions scenes were brilliant and the writing was even better. Was magnificently paced for a near 3 hour long movie.

Absolutely, one of the best movies I've ever seen.

The only thing I didn't really get was James Remar playing 2 characters, was there ever meant to be a connection or were we just supposed to be ignorant to it as we barely saw Remar in the opening scenes? I thought for sure we were going to find out that it was the same guy, but I guess not.


Now...I have to go watch Tarantino's other stuff.:oops:
 
EPIC. Loved the whole movie. DiCaprio played a brilliant antagonist and was very believable too. Tarantino has just gone up in my books. Loved his Aussie accent he put on. The acting was some of the best I've seen in a long time. Jackson was great as Stephen, thought he was a classic. Foxx and Waltz, though, were on a completely different level too the others I thought. Nothing else needs to be said about those two. Brilliant all round.

Only criticism I've got for the film, and as others have said, the finale was a bit over the top. Would have thought the perfect place to end it was the deal between DiCaprio and Waltz. But hey, it's the only criticism im giving it.

3 hours well spent.

If you haven't seen Carnage I would recommend seeing that. He's superb in this black comedy by Roman Polanski.
 
Watched this on Sunday night. Give it 7.5-8/10 Would be 9/10 but for the let down of the ending.

Something I found quite noticeable was the casting of African-American female characters. There seemed to be a very disproportionate amount of women with a lighter skin tone. I spotted 1-2 very dark female characters in the entire film. There was a much larger proportion of male characters with a very dark skin tone. A number of these female characters were not portrayed as second generation either.

It makes me wonder whether Tarantino finds lighter toned African-American women more attractive or screen friendly at the cost of historical accuracy? I really hope that is not the case.
