Download the Life with Playstation update under Network in the XMB, and get Folding@Home working on your PS3.

You can help Science but donating some of your unused PS3's computing power into complex protein transforms.... all while reading up on news, or looking at the weather around the world.

You can even make it run automatically when your PS3 is inactive after a certain amount of time by pressing Triangle on it in the XMB and choosing the Auto-Start option.

I have my PC folding with one of its cores whenever it is on which is basically 24/7. I can play games without any interference at all. If you have a quad core or more then there is no reason to not get involved.
