I think we got buggered in the Prestia deal for what is essentially 6 straight up, getting Nankervis for 46 is a win but we are now out of the pointy end of the draft. I'd personally now like to see us double down and throw everything at a genuine shot of top 4 success. Trade for Caddy with our second rounder, Try to get Lids for Marchbank or pick 15. Basically give up any currency we can mortgage and use it this year on experienced talent, Hartlett, Rockliff...who knows.

The way I see it we are probably playing for second place behind GWS regardless, so we may as well go for it now and face a hard rebuild in 3-4 years in the meantime we get to see some reasonable success and let our stars know that we are prepared to support their careers with us and sit in the middle of nowhere for decades.

I mentioned before I would like the see the Club totally commit in either direction (be it rebuild or hail mary with the current list); now that 6 is gone then I say load up. No point trying an each way bet with the current list, back it in and see how far it can go.

If we're going all in Deledio for pick 15 probably isn't smart.
I'd fish for Marchbank. They only want 5 from Carlton to stop them bidding on their picks, it looks like they will hold onto it for dear life so we might get Marchbank just for GWS to spite Calton and send a warning to a few of their players.

If we pick up Caddy for a second rounder then I would set ourselves up to go all in as of next off season. That way the likes of Caddy, Vlastuin, Prestia, Conca and others get the chance to gel for a season and then we package next years assets to go after another big name, whether that be a forward, mid or defender.

This way you would:

Established members (with at least four years remaining): Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt, Rance, Edwards,
The youngsters (U21's): Ellis, Menadue, Lennon, Short, Markov.
The group in between (21-26): Vlastuin, Ellis, Prestia, Caddy, Conca, Astbury, Miles, Lloyd, Grimes, Nankervis, McIntosh, Griffiths

Then Depth: Hampson, Grigg, Houli, among others.

Basically needing improvement from those aged 21-26 if we're going to be able to contenders.

I was thinking today that unlike the usual bottom 6 bullshit keeping us down bullshit, it's actually our inability to draft that's killed us. 5-10 for us are inconsistent and poor compared to other finals teams and 10-15 is usually on par with 15-22. We just leave too much to to few. Caddy and another mid on top of Prestia reduces the risk to us, in that we don't need them to be elite just good players that can help out our stars and push the Griggs of the RFC further down the pecking order.

IF we get Caddy for pick 24 and get 15 for Deledio then I would consider it a very successful trade period.
LOSE: Deledio, Vickery, pick 6, next year's 2nd rounder, pick 46, pick 24.
GAIN: Prestia, Caddy, Nankervis, pick 15, pick 27.

Be a wet dream, if we get it done early I'd let it be known 15 is up for grabs. Commit one way or the other.

Yeah and we get pick 15 or 13 and send that and Lids and the ****ing kitchen sink to the Suns for JOM. They are at the point where they would **** the dawks just to prove a point. Time to strike Tigers and get the ****ing doozy of doozies. Like I would be on the blower to his manager right now

We're getting pick 13 or 15 for Deledio though?

Will a 30+ Deledio with a slowly failing body and chronic injury issues (which he himself has admitted will require management for the rest of his career) help? We probably arent winning it next year, so pick 15 can definetely help. If nothing else it gives us a good asset we could use in a trade if the player is promising.

Id be happy to get O'meara for our pick 15 and 24, because his potential is Brownlow. His body shape and speed reminds me of Deledio.

But at the same time you can't be scared to go into the draft and simply inject youth into your side. Regardless of if you are rebuilding or not.

Pick 15, 24 and 27. Fast forward two seasons and we could have 3 great 20 year olds in our side

You always need to be bringing in youth.

I think they club should have a policy of always giving themselves at least two picks inside the top 30. So even if you are trading aggressively for a current shot you need to still be dipping into the draft.

Even with all the trades so far, we look like we will have 2-3 inside 30 while bringing in 3 players under 25. So we have traded in players that will improve us in the short term without sacrificing our future (too much, I am firmly in the 'should have kept 6 camp).
