Given that we have delisted a few players this year and a few have retired plus trading tarrant, provided we recruite well will we be atop 4 side next year? Ruck options--Fraser, richards, possibly a ruck option at pick 28,keating ?.Hypothetically would this combination be enough to get us to the garnnie and win it?
Forward line-Rocca,rusling,travis Cloke,medhurst,leon davis,bucks,didak(when he gets back)--Your thoughts ?
Midfield-Thomas,Pendles,obree,burns,Holland(when he gets back),picks 8 and 10 providing we pick 2 midfielders(from-selwood,proud,armitage,collard,connors,Jetta,hislop,houli-your thoughts?
back line-Clement,presti,heater,maxwell,johnson,wakelin, lonie, -your thoughts? additives-toovey,j anthony,o'brien.

CAN WE ACHIEVE WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS NOT POSSIBLE,provding we are calling this time ,a rebuilding stage ?

I can’t see how we can be top 4. We had a good run with injury on the back of a huge pre season and a flying start to the season but we couldn’t make top 4 last year. The consensus seems to be that the Dog’s will improve and potentially be top 4. Buckley, Burns, Licuria, Wakelin and Clement are a year older. A few players are on the improve but they aren’t close to the best of that lot at this stage. We still have all the deficiencies in the ruck and midfield that we have last year. Hopefully we will pick some real quality in the draft but so will our rivals and in any case we shouldn’t expect too much from 18 year olds.

I think we’d be doing well to hold our place at 7th. If a large number of players can make big gains and we had a good run with injury then we could challenge for a top 4 spot. On balance I don’t think we will. Our time came and went without us making the list adjustments necessary to win a flag unfortunately.

We have a good draw. To improve on last year we need:

1. No injuries to Richards and Fraser
2. Continued improvement from Thomas Pendlebury Egan etc to gradually squeeze Lockyer O'Bree Burns and Licuria out of the starting 18.
3. T Cloke and Rusling to improve
4. Pick 8 and/0r 10 to make an immediate impact
5. Rocca to have good shoulders and ankles
6. Medhurst to deliver, especially early when Didak is out.
7. No injuries to our talls where we have no depth.

Thats a bare minimum.

I think we are capable of about the same as this year, but top 4 is not out of the question.

I reckon if everything goes right at the right time, I reckon we can win the flag with a bit of luck!

Top 4 is wishful thinking, sadly. We haven't introduced any big name players or made any drastic changes, with the same list bar Tarrant, and injuries to Didak and Holland, I don't think we have the ability to finish in the top 4, but I would be the first person to admit I was wrong. And those who think the first-year players will make an impact, on where we finish, are kidding themselves silly - it ain't gonna happen, believe me.

If we play finals football and introduce more games into Thomas, Pendlebury and others - we'd be doing well. It's about the kids and watching them develop in the next few seasons.

Will be an interesting season next year

We have lost Taz & Didak which will hurt big time.

Interesting year, we showed that we can match it with the best....ie beating sydney & west coast

yet still have dud games against richmond, essendon etc.

dont expect much from the new picks

the good draw will help

rocca, fraser, t.cloke are the keys, if they all have big years then we are a show

No. We wont finish top 4. We are rebuilding at the moment.
We will finish between 7-13.
Dont say we will win the flag, although being confident is crucial in the game, you just gotta be realistic at times, and this is a time to be realistic.

Maybe in 3-4 years we can be what West Coast are.

i think your right the midfield and forward line need more work to be top 4 but hopefully they scrape in the top 8 and play a dud side like essendon or soft saints

we were 1 win away from the top4 in 2006, and we lost a couple of games in the H&A season which we should've won easy, and the players that we got rid of weren't too influenential in 2006 anyway.

i believe we will be challenging for top4 again next year, too much has been made in the media re: our last game and leg-speed.

Look at the top 4 teams in 2006:

WCE - we beat them once and lost to them in perth in a close one
Syd - beat them in Sdyney
Adel - Lost twice, but both competitive and close games
Freo - lost in a close one

if we have a good injury run (like this year), we will challenge for the flag.

Are you for real? You cant honestly think you can win the flag? Dont get me wrong Im not having ago at you, I dont mind it when the Pies are doing well but your in a rebuilding stage and are along way off the flag. Id say the bottom half of the 8 would be a good result.
