at the end of Hawks/Cats match, Tony Shaw was giving a little preview on next weeks matches, and he basically dismissed the Richmond/West Coast game as an easy 4 points for Richmond.

I know a lot of people like to be underrated, because the opposition takes you lighter, and then you may come over the top of them.

But From a personal point of view, it gets very frustrating, when the media continually dismisses you as easybeats. Does anybody esle feel this way, or do you like it when the media continually under-rates your team.

I feel the same as you, to have your team put down makes me frustrated as well...

Just look back at last weeks game against the Saints, we were underdogs and we proved them wrong, i think we can do the same thing this week to Richmond

Doesn't matter, it's just like the old days. I remember Bernie Quinlan on the TV in 1990 saying how the Eagles would be out of the finals "in straight sets". In fact, we made the preliminary final

The Eagles just have to keep hitting them where it hurts - on the scoreboard - and make them fear us again

There can't be a tv personality with less between his ears than Tony Shaw.
I don't mind the Eagles being under-rated. There is a lot of psychology in Footy and if Richmond think we're easy they set themselves up for a fall. I would imagine Geelong were expecting an easy win today against Kangaroos....and look what happened.
Sydney players said the Eagles game was about percentage...and nearly lost.

I hate being underdogs, i always liked hearing people say "the eagles will win easily" and "the eagles might win the flag this year".

Now it's more like "can't wait till we play WCE, free pts". This shit was coming from St.Kilda supporters last year.

But in the end the results are the most important regardless of whether we are favourites or 100-1 outsiders.

"I'm not going to waste my life trying to prolong it"

Often if a team goes in as underdogs they can pull often a win...look at adelaide and nth melb this week for example. Those wins might only have been cause of the weather but it still happens and whether or not other clubs believe us, WC DO HAVE A GOOD CORE OF PLAYERS.

Tony Shaw had better not try and rebirth his coaching career with us!

Richmond will be a good test to us. I rated Geelong and Sydney to finish ahead of us before the season started, along with Fremantle & St Kilda to finish below us. Richmond are that 'iffy' team, at best they are brilliant and Top 6 material, at their worst you realise why they have been unlucky in shaping up the finals in September.

I like being the underdog. Richmond think there gonna come over here and take the 4 points with a little % boost ... well let them think that. Overconfidence is a dangerous thing and constantly hearing the media put us down does nothing but pump up the boys to play better so bring it on.

And the honesty of it all is that the Roos and Brisbane were both tipped to be AFL forces this year and yet after 4 rounds were in front of both of them!

I think they do under-rate us - but then I'm biased!

But you have to remember we've only won three games of our last fifteen - and two of those were over last years wooden spooner. So maybe they've got a point.

Eaglesflyinghigh - you have to admit though that this years Eagles is a lot better than last years Eagles.

Gone
White - bad loss but no James Hird like CHF
Gehrig - i liked him but good riddance
Metro - reliable backmen and will be missed
McKenna - very bad loss

Arrived
Collica - shows great promise and is delivering, seems to have plenty of heart and he makes me forget about Metro.
Taylor - found new life it would seem.
Merenda - looks dangerous up forward.

Up and Comers
Glass - once back will strenghten our defence, has great potential.
Kerr - just awesome.
Cox - looks the goods, ready made footballer.
Wilson - no up and comer but very serviceable for a couple of years.
Fletcher - another great youngster

So all in all i think were are a better and YOUNGER outfit than last year. If we start fresh which we do at the beginning of every season then we are 2 and 2. Not 3 from our last 15.

sure, i think we're better than last year, but like i said, i'm biased! at this time of the year, EVERYONE thinks their team is better than last year! (almost everyone anyway)

yeah, we start fresh each year, but that doesn't mean last year means nothing. people aren't scared of Essendon because they've won three games this year, it's because of what they did last year. and they write us off because of what we did last year.

just make proving them wrong all the more satisfying!

I absolutely agree. How did he keep the position at Collingwood for so long? Great player, crap coach, dumb as dogsh!t.

But I think it's about time we were underestimated. I got so sick of hearing people say we'd win 1997-2000 when I knew we'd lose.

Being underdogs has heaps of perks.

I hate being the favourite. Cos when we lose we look like dicks .... but anyway!

This should be an EASY win to West Coast. OK, so Richmond are in form but wet toast are getting players like Braun back and DAMN IT i dunno but you guys are gonna win.
