None of my mates do but I always where one I just do not see the point of not wearing one.It makes you safe while playing and IMO there is no issue with comfort as you can take them off between overs.I think some people dont wear them just to make themselfs feel tough. If I didnt wear a helmet I would probably be dead by now.Well what are your opinions on it?

A boring topic I know but its been pissing me off.;)

Always, even in the nets.

It's not the fast bowlers I am worried about as I have a pretty good eye and can avoid their bouncers...it's getting a top edge, you can never avoid those...I wear one even to the spinners.

Once you get used to wearing a helmet, you actually prefer to bat with it on. It doesn't take long....

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!!

My dad wouldnt let any of us kids play without a helmet, because about 15 years ago or so...he was batting with one of his good mates...and his mate wasnt wearing a helmet...got hit in the head...and died...so yeah....always....even though chicks i played against couldnt really be calleddangerous bowlers, coz they rarely landed the ball on the pitch!! :p

If its with my girlfriend I don't, but when I'm no-good-cheatin'-sum-a-b itch, I definately wear one. Never know what you can catch out there.

in my day we didnt have them, and some of the bowlers i faced were fairly quick, and it wasnt the greatest of feelings.

now, i dont see the point in not wearing a helmet. It makes you more confident, and it gives you less chance of an injury.

do you wear a helmet

i have for the last 2 seasons and you definently get used to it. previous to that i got hit in the head twice by reasonably quick bowlers and it certainly shakes you up.

I hate wearing a helmet and will only choose to use one as a last resort when facing a real quick but real loose bowler.

This can be a red rag to a bull, as to some bowlers it shows a lack of confidence, but at least this scenario gets my feet moving.

It's looking through the grill that I can not adjust to, and I figure there is no point wearing a helmet without the grill.

Mind you as a wristy batsman I dislike wearing gloves and only started to as a matter of routine after breaking my hand.

I certainly managed to get used to it after a while.I cant bat without them now.Its actually the spinners that worry me more than the quicks.I rarely get in to trouble against quicks as I do not play the pull shot because I hate getting caught at mid wicket all the time.I always top edge sweep shots into my grill so it saves me a bit.;)

Hehe, in my younger days Briedis I was a psychotic left arm quick and I'm sure some guys would have loved the chance to let fly. Hell, I even used to sledge like a bastard when i was batting.

However, nowadays I've mellowed a bit on the field and I feel confident of not getting sconned at the level I now play. The mouth guard is there to stop a top edge smashing my teeth when I go for the big ones.

90% of the time I do. It's better to be safe then sorry in my books. When I dont wear a helmet I wear the Richie Richardson floppy hat :D

I dont at the moment cause im only in u/16's but as there trying to get me playing seniors now I think I might have to start wearing one instead of my FLOPPY hat :D

I love striding out to bat in a White floppy, it makes you look like a gun batter :o

I never used to.

But I lost a front tooth playing hockey, which is costing me 6 grand to get fixed.

So this season i've started...sure enough, first net session I top edged a pull straight into the face guard.

I have NEVER worn a helmet as I am the world's worst batsman and bat at eleven and I don't get to stay out there very long

My bowling figures at tea on Saturday were 9 overs 6 maidens 3 runs 2- wickets

Coulnd't believe it!!

I got bashed after tea but lets not worry about that!!!!

I firmly believe that batsmen get hit much more now on the head because they where helmets. It gives you that safety net which kinda dulls your reactions because sphycologically you know that the worst that can happen is a bit of a headache, I think if don't where one you don't just turn your head on the short stuff, there may be many times when it looks like you'll get hit but more often than not you pull out some sort of last minute evading move that just stops you getting splatted.

I agree with Briedis though it's the top edge sweep or hook that's the one that you really want to wear it for as with those you don't even get the chance for a last split second jerk of the head that stops you getting hit in the eye & maybe taking it on the cheek or whatever.

I have never worn a helmet in a match. I have tried to wear one at practice but I can't get used to it. There were no helmets when I started playing, by the time the helmet era was upon us it was like teaching an old dog new tricks.

I have only been cleaned up twice, once in the mid seventies at practice I tried to pull a bean ball. The other time was in the mid eighties, we were on a dodgey track and first ball of the innings was of full length, I came forward and the ball basically bounced straight up from where it pitched. It spread my nose across my face.
