You ought to go and read how the Docker Supporters are bagging their players over there. Especially Luke Toia...poor guy breaks his neck and can hardly be expected to play a blinder his first game back, but they are acting like his re-entry to Senior Fooy should have been seamless....I am afraid Fortress Subi will fall next weekend.

Fair call Visro.

On Luke Toia, there was one negative post and two immediate rebuttals, though some consensus on J-Lo and Carr's game.

Generally, when you lose, some players have not played to expectations and supporters debate their value to the side.

I think that is reasonable.

Why did they bring him back into the squad anyhows?

I thought thered be a dozen guys they could select ahead of him, and from what I saw he did play like **** anyways.

But you cant win anywhere else

When will you be able to win outside of WA. Thats why you are 8th on the ladder and Adealide, Brisbane, and Port Power who can win away are well ahead of you. You will not be a force again in the AFL until you can win away from home

Why was it that Westcoast had 8000 members tickets up for grabs this year. Could it be that people have jumped off the Eagles bandwagon when they do not win.

Ok well this has relevance.....

Anyways I agree on the first part, we will not be a force until we can win away from home but that being said we're making a lot more progress than I would have expected this season.

Im sure lots of people did decide not to renew their memberships after the last year or two, but that's their loss and theyre not true supporters if they made the decision based on our lack of wins. We may have had 8000 memberships availiable but I think youll find that even after 2 horrendous seasons of football we have only varied our total membership numbers in the order of below 1%, and we still rank in the top 3 or 4 clubs in terms of memberships so im not too fussed.

I think once we taste that first win "away", the bug may start to loosen of the player's backs.

Boast as the doubters may, it shall only be a matter of time before the Eagles begin to win away more often than not with the experience they have in flying every fortnight compared to most clubs in Victoria.

Like most teams, there are bandwagoners, all clubs have one. Point out a side that does not have them in their supporter base, but least we have the numbers in membership to enable our club to continue as a strong club for many years to come. :D :D

For those who forgot, we were favourites for wooden spoon.....6 wins is one more than last year and so far our season has been good. There are still 11 rounds to go. ;)

If the Eagles do end up playing finals this year, then it is an OUTSTANDING achievement for the team most likely to win a wooden spoon to play in the finals. :D :D :D

Last time I looked we were 7th and after the Pies beat the dee's we went up to sixth? When were we 8th?

Thrawn, sorry about the delay in getting back to your question, namely "...Why did they bring him back into the squad anyhows?"

It is a good question, but I am not on the match commitee.

Toia's form had been good in the WAFL, I understand he has been training well with the Dockers. I would say Sausage Rolls would want to look at him as soon as possible to see if he is going to make the big cull at the end of the season, and on top of that I'm guessing he was hoping to trade on a bit of emotion going into a crucial away game.

Toia's form during the game could be best described as ordinary, and he did appear to struggle to adjust back to the speed of AFL, with two glaring turnovers in the second (one a smothered kick as the Bullies closed him down after he had time, another an intercepted handpass under similar circumstances). He probably did not do himself any favours on Sunday. But I salute his determination in making it thus far.

On other players pushing for selection, there was a clamour for McPharlin earlier last week, but that would have been premature, not sure about this week. Wouldn't be surprised if he is called up. Shipp is failing to make his presence felt at WAFL, Bootsma is not at the same level as last year, Woods remains casual, McPhee is a bit scratchy as well, but steps up in the AFL. Is Metro playing for Subi? Anybody? Anybody care?

Kickett probably was unlucky last week. We could have used him, though his early season AFL form was poor, and Sausage Rolls probably has the red ink out and has ruled it through his name.

I thought it was pretty similar to that of his entire career.

Agree with you about Toia though.
Fantastic effort to come back from a broken neck, and hopefully he gets another week to prove himself.

My spy at EP v. Sooooby said that Metro had a pretty ordinary game. My understanding is that his salary is so high ("Fewsteresque" in fact) that he will definitely be in the big cull come season's end.

I did see Toia play against West Perth the other week and he did very well, albeit with the help of numerous umpiring decisions in his favour - if anyone goes near his neck, they'll blow up!

McPharlin looked good in flashes at the weekend, but I'm not sure he did enough to get in and anyway, Freo's problems at the weekend seemed to come from appalling turnovers in the middle and back half. Would Kickett and/or McPhee do better down there this week? Not sure. Interesting to see who CC puts out to try to halt Mick's bandwagon.

I still say we take him back if it means we can send Harding back to Freo...

I think we both have to share the pain of that trade. How long did you sign Harding up for, anyway?

Fewster is allegedly on a 1yr circa 100k contract this year, for what it is worth.

That's nothing.

you should read what they post about west coast on there.

However, I do admit there were too many people complaining about Luke Toia's effort against the Western Bulldogs.

I think this is Hardings final year. Don't think he is quite on a 100k contract, though that could explain why he was retained on our list?

Shame about Fewster, the guy always had potential to be a good player, just never quite stepped up that extra level required for AFL footy.

Speaking of potential, what ever happened to Lauri Belloti (sp?)? He was on our list a few years back after being promoted from the rookie list and looked to be developing into quite a good mobile ruckman. Then it was rather a surprise when he was delisted and no one has heard from him since...

I know he was not picked up by another AFL club and just continued his career with Claremont, but have not heard much of him.

I say WA would be best at answering that one.....:)

I was pretty disappointed when Belotti was cut, I had big wraps for the guy myself, he always looked as if he had the goods but was never really given the time to develop. I remember him playing a blinder against the Bulldogs when they were at their peak to close down Chris Grant, still got that game on tape actually. Not sure if im right here but could he have been delisted with the arrival of Judge? If so yet another unwise decision made during the dark ages in my opinion.
