No guys it isn't a derogatory thread about them. In light of the recent "jumping ship" episode, I was simply wondering how many Dockers Supporters barracked for the Eagles before Fremantle's inception? Or other clubs alike.

Had Fremantle soley relied upon a South Fremantle connection then maybe things would have been different. I know from my point of view most definitely.

If you were a true South Freo supporter, you would have despised the eagles for crippling your club.
Everyone wants to go to the highest levels in life and their careers if possible. Why would anyone begrudge people that?

Being a true South Fremantle supporter means you still go and watch the WAFL.

There have been enough clues to indicate he's a true Souths man. Had Fremantle soley relied on anyone, the Souths supporters would have flocked in dwoves.

Now now, we only put it on its arse. It was Freo's arrival that put it in the wheelchair. I demand a finding of contributory negligence, your honour...

The Claremont connection was undeniable MM. Had there been the slightest linkage to heritage back then (BTW the Heritage round did bring a tear to the eye seeing the gorgeous blood-stained guernsey) I would have most definitely jumped ship.

I take your point however.

OK, I'll rephrase that.

If you were a true South Freo supporter, you would have BELIEVED that eventually a team based in that region WOULD be playing at the highest level, and in the meantime the eagles have crippled your club.

I did. I only started supporting the Dockers since 1999. I was young.

I was an Eagles supporter until I found myself cheering for the Dockers in derbies. It's not a choice I made, just the way I felt.

I supported the Eagles way back when it was WA v everyone else. It was a natural thing to support your state side against the rest of the country. Plus, I can use the "I was young" defence because I was about 5 when the Eagles started playing.:D

But as soon as the Dockers came along, I began supporting them. Largely I think it was to do with going for the underdog and the fact that they were a side from SOR like me. Or, it may have been because I have no dress sense and I thought the Docker's combination of colours looked good.:D :p

Being an Sharks supporter (from afar) I found it natural to support Freo. I too was a bit upset about the over abundance of Claremant but did realise that things would revert to a more freo centric way sooner or later.
I still believe that it was a bit of a concious decision by the WAFC to try to isolate Freo from East's & South's to try to broaden the appeal to others.

But maybe I am paraniod.

I still can't understand how PPL can be an East's or Sowf's supporter and not follow Freo.

I've posted this before on the Docker board... easier to cut and paste ;)
I have always been a avid Claremont Supporter. My most hated team was South Fremantle closely followed by East Fremantle. ( I have always compared South supporters to Collingwood supporters ) When the WCE came along it was only natural to follow them as I hated the Vic's for pinching all our players.... I was there for there first game agaist Richmond. I was never a fan of Mick Sh*thouse. Always whinging, whining and bitching. He turned an attacking team into the most boring team ever to play the game. When the "Claremont Dockers" was formed with Gerard Neesham at the helm, I jumped ship. A lot has been said about Gerard Neesham's style of play but it was never boring.

GO THE CLAREMONT DOCKERS!!!

Never supported the Eagles.

I was waiting for either West Perth to join the AFL (it was rumoured) or the Southern Team .....I go the latter and I was happy.

If Fremantle had turned out to be the Western Stingrays based out of Nedlands .....I might have regretted my decision ....however I'm happy.

Simple for me, my passion for West Coast developed before the Dockers were around to do anything about it.

Because perhaps East Fremantle Football Club is an entirely separate entity.

The same way Glen Jakovich and Peter Matera were "freo boys" yet grew up playing for the Eagles.... when Freo came into the comp they didn't just jump off the Eagles and start supporting Freo.... and I doubt they will when their careers have ended.

It's a pretty weak person that supports a club and just changes team.

There's 'supporters' and 'followers' just like the thousands of Man Utd 'followers' who have never been to a game.

With the VFL I doubt id many in WA actually supported, but many followed the fortunes of a club. When WCE was born then the first chance to become a true supporter came about.

Moo, I don't think even Dennis thought that WP was going to join the AFL.

Not true. Before it was decided where the 2nd team would be placed there was a strong push, led by Dennis, to have the team located in Joondalup.

Its a shame it never happened but if they couldn't survive at Leederville then they were never going to survive in the AFL.

I think the next WA AFL team should be from Joondalup.

I doubt that would happen until at least 2020, and even then the passion for the cardies would be long forgotten, if it isn't already.

I think it will happen sooner than later. Perth is growing so fast.

2020 is only 16 years away (time seems to go so fast these days, **** it is bloody near christmas already :D) and if all the passion is gone from the garlic munchers by then I will be very surprised.

BTW Did i ever say that the very first game of Aerial ping pong I ever watched live was the West Perth vs South Fremantle GF in 1975(?) where poor old Sowf's got such a flogging. There was 50000+ there that day.
