So, he came in for a chat to the Essedonians function.
First question from the crowd he was put on the spot and asked about getting Aker......he smiled.....tried to dodge the question a bit.....said they were looking at everyone in the draft blah blah. Basically, he was a bit shifty and really didn't seem to want to answer the question and after a bit of a ramble he was chainging the topic a bit. I think it's safe to say that Essendon are definitely chasing Aker and everyone else at our table agreed with me, also lot's of others at the function agreed based on his actions and comments. He rambled on about a lot of stuff so I can't recall exactly what he's words were. But it went something like this "oh, aker....yeah....um.....deflection deflection...um....looking at who is available...more deflection....picked up Campo as a bonus in the PSD....will see come draft time...etc".
Something to note though, he made a comment about Adelaide. Said that their main powerhouse is made up of guys who are basically 30 year olds. He was almost trying to convince people that picking up 29-30 year old players can only be a good thing. Wouldn't be surprised to see Essendon lining up for Aker come draft time.
He was also asked who we were keen on in the national draft and he said "we need a fullback to take over from dustin" and that Seller, Hansen and Gumby were being very closely looked at. He did acknowledge that we needed a young midfielder with some class but from what I can gather we will try and get a KPP defender with our first pick and then probably go for a midfielder. He did make mention that this draft is unusual because of the tall timber in the top 10. I wouldn't be surprised to see us try and offload someone for another top 10 pick to try and grab a midfielder.
Was also asked a question about end of season delistings, obviously dodged that by a mile but made a special mention about Lachlan McKinnon. Said something along the lines of "the club thinks he is going to be a very good player and has a place at Essendon". Due to the fact he is on the rookie list I am not sure what the deal is there. If he is rookie listed can anyone grab him in the draft or do we get a chance to elevate him after we dump some players? Is there room at Essendon for Hille, Laycock, Ryder and McKinnon? I would say Carts is well and truly on the way out.
Mentioned Winderlich, Dyson and Dempsey, was saying that Winders was starting to hit his straps until he got a fracture. Dyson is still hot and cold but that is expected by the club as he is developing. I would say they are both safe from the axe come the end of the season. Has got very big wraps on Dempsey, apparently everyone at the club thinks this kid is the next big thing. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a few more games next season.
Didn't say a lot else...just a bit of ramble and nothing worth mentioning.
cheers.
