There's been a lot of discussion about the possibility of Bird this weekend.

Also my senses tell me there is a lot of dissatisfaction with Perrie's form.

Should Ken come in and replace Pez ?

...or does Ken come in as well as Pez ?

West Coast have a number of in form talls.......do we need that extra tall or is our current mix ok...?

discuss.

Its tough, real tough. Perrie and Kenny have different styles of play, and having both could be great, especially up forward, but having both will force out a smaller player and we need the run, especially this week. and i just cant see how you can take perrie out, so as much as it pains me to say, kenny misses.

Can we play them both?

I doubt Mark Ricciuto or Andrew McLeod will not come up this week (even with a wonder drug) but I expect Brett Burton to get named so a forward line of

FF: Welsh, McGregor Bode
HF: Burton Perrie Porplyzia

Bock can move back to cover Hanson, Stevens can take Hunter and Rutten can take Lynch leaving Bassett to cover Waters

Back 6

HB: Doughty Bock Johncock
FB: Bassett Rutten Stevens

In: Burton Macgregor

Out: Douglas (either Massie or Torney*)

no. if you want to lose this weekend, guaranteed, bring kenny in.

kenny is not the right player to take on the weagles game plan. ian perrie hasnt been bad, he provides a wealth of scoring shots/oppurtunties for porplyzia/bode to crumb.

We could do with the extra height against WC.
I favour not bringing Ken in this week......but I have a nagging thought that an extra tall might be handy.....

I'm starting to think that if Burton comes up - Ken will miss given that Burton plays tall in our fwd line - and it releases Bock to defense if required to cover their talls.

But if Bird doesn't come up - they might favour bringing in Ken as an additional tall.

Either way - I think Pez retains his spot.

I have a gut feel that the only in this week will be Burton... out: Douglas...

I liked Crows 98 match ups too :thumbsu:

All year Craig has emphasised how important the off the ball work is. Against WC we need to put pressure on the ball carrier. Ken just can't do this, he either takes a mark or is out of the contest. Perrie at least works harder and is less one-dimensional nowadays.

If we play both we're down a mid-size runner and we'll need all the run we can get, especially if it's hot. No decision really.

I remember being heckled for suggesting Burton in Perrie out, yet Kenny in Perrie out seems ok? I voted Kenny Out.

Personally, I thought Perrie did well last week in pretty horrid conditions for a tall. He COULD have had 5 goals... and in perfect conditions, odds are he would have had at least 3. He presents well and always provides a contest. I'd rather not see him go anywhere.

McGregor, prior to him being dropped, was in VERY poor form. What makes you think he's going to be any better?

My main concern is if both Burton AND McLeod are available (as is looking increasingly more likely) who is the other we drop (Douglas is a given)?

No chance. He isn't a game winner. He's a utility. If he does, I'd prefer him in the backlines with Bock staying forward.

I hope someone bookmarks this post and waves it in my face after Kenny boots 3 in the final quarter though.

I say no.

We don't eed another tall IMO & the talls in the side are in better form than Kenny was prior to his injury (still reckon he was carrying OP).

Backs
Rutten v Lynch
Stevens v Hansen
Bassett v Hunter/resting ruckman/etc

Bock & Perrie are competing better in the Crows forward line - ie. keeping the pressre on the backs, rather than falling over frequently as Kenny was doing.

Playing another tall would rob us of another midfielder, when we need all he midfield rotations we can get against the Weagles as they are a hard running unit.

Kenny works very very hard off the ball, often even when he is having a bad game you will see him provide a bump on an opposition player so that another forward can get a clean run at the ball.
Speaking of players who either take a mark or are out of the contest how about Scott Welsh, at least Kenny chases and tackles when he doesnt have the ball.
Perrie does work hard but a forward must kick goals, we cannot afford to miss easy shots this week.

Duly noted ;) The K-train will come good!

You CANNOT be questioning Welshy's defensive pressure. Other than Bode, he is the best we have in the side. His defensive pressure when he doesn't have the ball is sensational

He might chase (if he hasn't fallen over) but he's too slow to get there on most occasions. I agree he does a lot of blocking to allow other forwards to lead, but Perrie does this pretty well too. As for Welsh not chasing and tackling, that used to be the case years ago but i think he's improved no end in this area.

Maybe the side should be chosen to suit whatever the weather conditions will be

I think our line up is well tall enough already, and the only changes likely will be mid sized / smaller players for the same, assuming Bird and possibly Macca come up.

A few people have mentioned potential match ups in our defence for Hunter. Have a look at their line up from last week, unless they bring in another key position defender, you would imagine he'll have to play back predominantly. I'm not sure if they've got anybody else available. Hopefully they bring that muppet Gaspar back in. No doubt he's injured though.

If Wirrpunda doesn’t play would playing Andrew McLeod in the forward pocket be an ace up out sleave we could use that they may not be expecting?

The back 6 (Rutten, Stevens, Bassett, Torney, Van Berlo and Johncock) is pretty much set in stone and functioning extremely well, I cannot see how Andrew Mcleod would change the dynamics of the defensive unit for the past 2 or 3 weeks enough to win us the game. I understand Andrew importance to the half back line but at structure is working and we could do with his brilliance in other areas.

The trouble we have had in the last few weeks was midfield and kicking a winning score, playing Andrew McLeod on the half forward flank or forward pocket would give the WCE a major headache especially if birdman plays as well.

Especially if he can kick 2 or 3 and set up a few for Perrie, Welsh and Bock
