Two things...one early days yet but signs were not good. Still we have been in this position before.

I don't bag players but IMO Dogga Doughty is a fair dinkum squib and as such should not represent the Crows again. I watched him dog it 3 times during the Norwood trial and now on TV against the Roos twice in the last quarter. The Crows should take a leaf out of the Power's attitude towards squibs and not pick him again this year and delist him at the end of season ala Donald Dickie.

Dickie dogged it on the wing in one game ,he was dragged and was never seen in the Power's colours again. ::o

Dickie wanted a 2 year contract at the Power and was only offered one so the choice to walk out on the Power was his. Freo then undertook to draft him but stuffed up the salary cap and the AFL stated that they couldn't draft him.

This left him with nowhere to go, he had moved west and Freo "owed him", so they gave him an assistant coaching role at South Fremantle. He was playing there when he either did a serious knee or broke his leg, I can't recall which.

Have a go at players if you wish but please don't try to rewrite history, especially when it gives the Power more credit than they are due. Our only pleasure this season may be seeing them fail again at finals time.

Cheers,
Tinman

I think you have confused Donald Dickie with Fabian Francis ;)

Stiffy,
I am soooooo embarrassed. Of course you are correct.

I'll crawl back into my hole.:D

PS. See my post re "same old" regarding bagging the players. It really isn't the solution, however I don't think you can ever stop it on a forum like this and people are entitled to their opinions.

I do think that we are all feeling bad enough at the moment now though without talking up the Power.....

Cheers

I think you are being a little harsh on Doughty.

I mean, he did kick 2 goals. That's pretty good, especially considering he was our equal highest goalkicker on the weekend with Stiffy.

He wasn't as good as stiff but did a few nice things. I wouldn't go past saying he was one of our best players (though in hindsight that really doesn't mean much).

Give him another chance next week, and I'm sure he'll impress. He's already impressed me so far.

squib........hahaha what a cute word!

seriously though, don't let Dogga go just yet....I thought he did ok on the weekend - by far not the worst.

Ozzie, I think we may have already come to a similar conclusion about Lads.

I haven't seen the game so I can't comment specifically, but Doughty doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to being 'hard at it', so your post doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, wasn't our worst player by any means. Thought it was a strange decision to play him out of FF in the 2nd half, but at least he gave us a leading target & kicked 2 goals. Personally, I'm more critical of higher profile players like Andrew "gone missing" McLeod.

He gave a fair effort and kicked a couple of goals.

Which is a hell of a lot more than can be said for the majority of the rest of the side.

I think its time we stopped blaming individuals and looked at the balance of the team. Our centre square group on a number of occasions on Saturday was Shirley, Stenglein and Bode. Compare this to Harvey, Simpson and Stevens and you can see why we were killed out of the centre. Our midfield needs rejuvenation, and that is why a Schuback or a Jericho ( later in the year form willing needs to be tried), fresh, hard running players with youthful enthusiasm need to be brought in to the team. Hopefully this injection will help spark up Macca and others who only seem to go through the motions at times during the game. The problem has not been helped by the desire of the crows hierarchy to get a tall spine for the future. Our draft picks this year may reap rewards in the long term, but it means that in the short term we are light on for smalls. However for years we have complained about the lack of quality key position players and the games against Brisbane have borne this out. If we are to be more competitive we need to have 6' 4" plus players down the spine. it is alot harder to get these players than midfielders, so we may have to wait until this year;s draft before we can inject running crumbing players around these quality talls. I can see where the club is heading - they are now on the right track, but it will take two or three years before we get the new breed playing quality, consistent football. A line up of Watts at CHF Kruger at CHB, Hentschell at FB etc. may one day be seen as a very formidable spine. Please be patient, the club is well managed and knows what it is doing.

Firstly, Welcome aboard :)

Secondly, I think you make some very good points. One thing I will disagree with you is playing Jericho in the midfield. He is really not a midfielder. He is more of a utility player where he can play in defence or attack.

I totally agree with our recruiting of tall players. I think we will potentially have a very good spine in a few years time. Watts at CHF, Krueger at FF :D, McGregor at CHB and one of the talls as a FB. What we need to adress come draft and trade time is some youth in the midfield with pace and genuine football ability. I still think we need a young developing ruckman as I don't see Krueger as a full time ruckman at AFL level.

Agree he did ok kicked a couple of goals so he did okay but like alot of them has to improve with their disposal even Roo stuffed up a few of his disposals lets just put it this way it was a dismal day from everyone, we go out on Saturday put it behind us and take on the Lions head on dont hold back get a win get the confiendence restored;) :D

For 2005 we need to trade for or draft
one young ruckman around 200 cm
a big strong, quick full back
gun midfielders - in the Roo mould. No more little blokes, we need guys with some size, skill and presence to help out Roo.

Daniel Harris come on down :D

Faulkner hasn't really got size but I would still have him in my side.:D

Obviously we haven't got the goodies to trade for all of those. Seaby is the player you'd love to get, as he is a young ruckman who is mobile, can mark a ball, good skills and looks a first class ruckman of the future.

He'd be off limits though.

Would you trade Stenglein for him??????

I think stinger is coming out of a contract at the end of the year. As usually is the case with interstaters you never know where you stand. Something to think about I guess.

Talking of Stinger, if he is struggling with OP, AFC must learn from their mistakes last year & rest him. No point playing half fit players.

Now that I agree with. There have been a few rumours around the traps that both Stinger and Watts have OP. If this is the case I hope we look after these boys and get them right before playing them in a footy match.
