"I don't see it with Hynes"
"Hynes is a bust"
"Drop Hynes until he works out how to commit and play"
"Hynes just doesn't have it"

Think there were similar sentiments early about Sanders.

Didn't Confucius say something about a young grasshopper learns quickly playing alongside Bont, Richards, etc?? 😀
Wasn't that what 3np said and got pilloried for it?

Bevos comment had nothing to do with McNeil it had everything to do with him selecting McNeil
That's fairly cynical and negative IMO. Generally shown a great care for the players.

Im not sure if this is addressed at me or not. And I got a drive by in the match day thread about the same.

So Im going to address it anyway from my perspective. Because...its my birthday!

Do I think that Beveridge is an under appreciated genius? Now I like to use hyperbole for effect as much as the next guy. But, Absolutely not. To think he is would be silly. Do I think he is flawed. Absolutely. I think all coaches are. Just like I think that Sam Mitchell or Chris Scott who most would say have a distinct match day advantage over Beveridge are.

The thing that irks me about the entire discussion though, is the role that the players have in our loses gets ignored like they have no agency in what just happened. Sure the likes of McNeil, VDM or some other fringe type fighting for his slot in the side will get piled onto. They're fair game. But for the most part the blame is always laid at the feet of the coach. Its just a lazy knee jerk reaction. One only needs look back at the irrational over-reactions all but calling for Beveridges head to be paraded around the MCG on pike at half time. In last nights game day thread for examples of that.

As for his future. If he and the club parted ways tomorrow. Id thank him and move on with my life.

He's an important part, but ultimately just a part of the passing parade of the club that I choose to support.

Happy birthday for yesterday NDG!

Yeah our ball use in rebounding from D50 is still our #1 issue for mine. More than a handful of Hawks goals were caused this way.

I'd be getting Jacques back in asap.
Unfortunately one of the main offenders is Dale whose game is generally very good but he is prone to the odd howler. He either needs to nail the kicks or be less ambitious.

Coffield had some great moments defensively but he should quickly get the ball safely to a more reliable kick any time he gets the ball in defence and shouldn’t take kick outs. His disposal is heart in mouth stuff every time.

Bramble seems to be ok at kicking out.

Dales positives wayyyyy out weigh any negatives from kicking out, he’s tasked with literally controlling 95% of our ball movement he’s gonna make some mistakes. Ask him to stop taking risks and we don’t move the ball from def to fwd 50

Yes he made a few mistakes this week but generally very reliable

Its the way Dale has been directed to play, get the ball moving as quick as possible out of defense if he sees a viable option. Not always going to come off, but comes off more than not. Teams that have a high forward pressure rating will occasionally force the turnovers from Dale's run off the back line.

When you look back on our 6 from 6 close wins this year, pretty much all of the clutch dying moment plays have come from (senior team) first year or fringe players.

Oskar Baker kicks the winner vs Adelaide.

Harvey Gallagher and Will Lewis scrounge points after scores are level deep in Q4 vs Port.

Lachie Jaques makes the crucial late spoil vs Melbourne.

Michael Sellwood takes the crucial pack mark vs Collingwood.

Nick Coffield makes the crucial spoil vs Hawthorn.

You couldn't script it.

All bar Gallagher took part in our narrow VFL GF win last season.

We had 8 such players in our team on Friday.

I think the experience has helped turn around our fortunes in these games.

the best thing for me, was not the big player names. i thought lewis, selwood, bukhu, crofdt, cofield and hynes were the difference. best game from coffield, hynes and croft since playing at the highest level. onya boys, you made the difference.

I don't want to ever hear anyone say sack Bevo ever again.

Whatever the faults for this team they wanted to run through walls for him and the club in the 2nd half.

A season we thought was dead is very much alive.
sack bevo. he is a spud. he is making the team play well and all of us who bagged him, makes us look bad. SACK THE COACH!!!

I don’t disagree with any of this. But isn’t it another example of how inadequate our list management and coaching is?

I agree that a bulldogs team kicking out is significantly poorer when it’s not Dale doing it. But I’m dumbfounded that it’s something we rely upon when this is meant to be a professional football club.

Sanders is a midfielder with class. watson is an amazing small forward. both on our team would be great. love watching them both. saying one is better than the other is a mute point because they play different roles
