While Richmond is expecting to have Ben Cousins re-signed by the end of this week, disgruntled Tigers defender Andrew Raines will attempt to kick-start his career in Brisbane later this year.
The first trade deal on October 5 will be between Richmond and Brisbane, which has agreed to exchange a third-round national draft selection for Raines, 23, who has not played for the Tigers since round nine. A spate of injuries and a lack of form has contributed to Raines playing just five games over the past two seasons, after he did not miss a senior game in 2006 and 2007.
Lions coach Michael Voss has given his blessing for the exchange involving Raines.

Hopefully that info is actually correct as it would be great to get another 3rd round pick for Raines. Assuming the Lions get done Friday night we would get pick 44.

Great News RT. I was convinced we wouldn't get better than a 4th rounder for Raines.

Also good to hear Cuz is close to being re-signed.

Despite having the personality of a gnat, Denham doesn't get many things wrong. I would have thought a 3rd round pick is fair compensation for a 22 year old rishing star runner-up.

So we therefore have picks 3, 19, 37, 44, 53?

We have delisted/retired/traded Brown, Bowden, Johnson, Raines, Coughlan, JON, Pettifer and Hughes. As Bowden was a vet, it gives us 7 picks in the ND.

I reckon we will promote Nahas, and we would be 50/50 on Silvester and Browne. That therefore (saw we promote 2 of the 3), gives us 5 picks.

In a shallow draft, surely we wouldn't draft anymore then 5 players in the ND?

Therefore I reckon we may need to delist/trade 1 or 2 more players. One to pick up Josh Free with maybe pick 69 F/S and a PSD pick 2 in case anyone good comes through.

Simmonds, Schultz, King, McMohan (hopefully St Kilda trade) would all still be a little nervouse I reckon

Better then nothing. It’s a shallow draft though so we probably won’t get much for it but I hope I eat those words. :D

a shallow draft maybe, but what an opportunity for an 18yr old to cement his spot, and perhaps develop his skills faster, than be playing in the VFL for the year like so many other draftee's.

Gotta remember they changed this rule, you can't just pick them up with any pick, gotta be the one that's before the highest bidder! Haven't seen this kid play, so not sure if we would want a higher pick gone for him.

My feeling exactly.

And given the players to come out of contract next year, unless a miracle form revival occurs, we'll probably easily have at least another 5 National Draft picks in a draft that is torn apart by GC17.

Nonsense. If a player deserves to go then they deserve to go. What more are players like Schulz, King, McMahon, etc gonna to contribute than a 18 year draftee will? They're all terrible and will probably play VFL most of the year. Get rid of them all. Also, no chance in hell that Silvester will be upgraded, Browne is also a massive long shot as he's so raw and needs to develop.

He wasn't invited to draft camp so it would appear that no other clubs are interested in him. IIRC it takes at least 3 clubs to ask for a player to go to draft camp before they are given an invite.

If true, a 3rd rounder would be great.
I wouldn't mind picking up Freezer Jr for our last pick - not sure if any other teams would be interested in him

We certainly shouldn't have been nominating him for the ND. So State Screening a good result for both club and player.

Is it just me or could we do better than pick 44?? After all, Raines is a rising star runner up, 23 years of age. He is still pretty young with a heap of football left in him. He could possibly play for another 7-8 years. If I was CC I would be start by asking for pick 28 and see where that takes us.

Raines has played 5 games from the past 44. His value since the Rising Star finish has fallen because of this. Getting pick 44 for a bloke who could have walked for nothing is a very good get, especially when you consider we picked him up with a mid 70's pick a few years ago.

If we're doing deals with the Lions, is it worth looking at Jamie Charman. He's better than Simmonds, but still only #3 at Lions.

Sure I'd prefer Clark or Luenberger, but I'm sure they're not going anywhere.

i think pick 44 is great result, will give us more bargaining power at trade week. say pick 44 and schulz for a second round pick.
