I can't accept an apology and we'll review goal umpires positioning for the future.

Do they not understand the potential implications of what transpired last night?

This could change our whole season, could change people ie Hardwick's career and could have cost a lot of people some money gambling. The whole thing smells of corruption!

This isn't a case of a bad umpiring decision, this is the case of an umpire directly positioning himself where the ball was coming from. If he is not smart enough to expect a ball kicked from that angle to potentially hit him if he straddles the line then he shouldn't be a goal umpire. The non review is just further example that this is clear cheating by the umpires. I don't care what anybody says this game should be classified as void and both teams should be awarded 4 points as a replay would not be possible. The rules for the ball hitting the umpire should not cover the blatant blocking of the goals by an umpire. If this isn't fixed then it is just another example of how we get screwed along with many others because the AFL commission and umpiring committee are allowed to do as they please!

Agree there should have been a review and right now the AFL must invest in better and available technology for the review system. For goodness sakes if surfers, base jumpers and even drone copters can carry these tiny HD cameras surely they can mount the things inside the goalposts at varying angles and heights to view the goal line and area in front.

All else aside we've just gotta move on. Had a goal been awarded the ball would have gone back to the centre and for all we know Freo may still have kicked another goal to win going by our failure to flood back and defend the winning score, which is how it turned out in the end.

It's irrelevant because once we weren't awarded a goal (which was a goal) we were cheated out of a fair result. The main point here is that it was a goal, it's not like a bad umpiring decision this actually happened and wasn't awarded and given the umpiring on the day was obviously blatant cheating either caused by home field advantage, match fixing or gieschen. We should be able to take the AFL to court over this as the impact is much greater than just it's only a game.

Its not a horse race, or sudden death - the game isn't decided over a single score (unless it happened after the final siren which it didn't) so that's a moot point. There were infinite possibilities of scoring opportunities for either team prior to and after that incident so match fixing in this manner is pretty much impossible.

I just seen the replay of that incident , Matt White kicks the ball, Ty Vickery tries to kick it mid air but fails ( or succeeds it doesnt matter no hands everything from the foot).......it hits the goal ump in the nads. It has to be a goal!!
You guys will be spitting chips if you dont make finals on % or miss top 4 (highly unlikely :)) because of that decision. Afl is getting bad to worse. mind boggling.

Rubbish article put out by the AFL.

Notice that the ball hits the umpire in the right leg at mid thigh. His right foot is two feet behind the line until he jumps in the air to avoid the falling ball AFTER it hits him. The ball lands touching the line after having bounced forward from the contact. It crossed the damn line you morons - it is a goal. Yet the AFL have the temierity to call it a correct decision.

Umpire was positioned in one of two correct positions, the one on the line for contested balls at the line, this wasn't contested though there was a chance of Ty's foot being in contact as it crossed, the other was that he should have been at the rear of the goal post in the line of flight of the ball to see if it grazed the post. So 50/50 here as to his position being right. So this gives the AFL the chance to say that there was some query justifiable and use this to bury the truth of the outcome.

AFL spin doctoring at it's best. It was a goal you pricks now admit it!!!!

I was upset at the mark over the goal-line in our game:

But then you guys just have to go one-up, don't you!

Gotta say, are the goal umpires ... like ... OK? Not sure what the guy above is doing.

Trying to straddle the line (like in your game) is just ridiculous. Use your friggin neck!!!

And the umpire who did his knee in the WB game only got injured because he was show-ponying (craning his neck backwards to watch the ball way after it had passed through, when he should have turned back and seen a couple of players hurtling towards him).

Sorry to say it Squiz but Reiwoldt should be gone for handling the umpire there - clearly has him by the shirt sleeve pulling him over.

If you are going to post things like this post the video - if he had control of the ball before he crossed the line, which looks possible, then it is a mark. I assume as it is Reiwoldt in the picture that is a swans back taking a mark to prevent the goal? Was a mark awarded or a free for ump touching? Haven't seen any of the game so just asking.

My question is that when the Freo guy walked over the line with the ball, why wasn't he called for deliberate? Next to no pressure on him, and he crossed the line. Textbook deliberate behind.

I don't want to distract from this thread, as the decision (or it seems the rule and poor positioning by the umpire) was just horrible.

Richmond should take the AFL to court. Someone has to stand up and make them pay for these regular bad decisions. It's not fair that if a player stuffs up, they get suspended and finned. Forget the MRP, get in an umpiring review panel and for every bad decision the club gets compensated. They'd soon clean up this stink.

Yet a few years ago Luke McGuane got pinged with a player on his hammer. He is the only AFL player to get penalized with the deliberate rushing rule.
Makes me sick.

After everything that happened last night, the goal umpire managed to f***k up another decision tonight in the dogs vs cats game. Ball clearly went through for a goal but called it a point. Yeah that's right...... He didn't call a review.

They have got one job, ONE!!!

Another bad decision that came late that resulted in that balentine goal was the fact freo had two ruckman go up against maric. How wasn't that called a free kick to Richmond is beyond me.

I was Ok before but now today's games are over I'm still stewing over this.

All I know it will be like 1995 again next week because I am ready to peal paint off the walls.

If the umpire makes another mistake like the Maric ones or the Cotch ones or goals not getting reviewed,I will go Ferral.
