Really can't! Our boys put up a great fight and played their hearts out. Did everything that we havn't done in rounds 1&2 plus more. Attacked the corridor hard, ran hard, applied pressure, moved it on quickly. Everything we asked them to do. In the end, Essendon were simply better and fitter than us and we also had the umps to beat as well.

But let's not be angry at the boys and make these stupid threads of delisting them, trading them, calling them shit, etc. etc. I'm proud of the way they went about the game and i could walk away being slightly disappointed but at least proud of an improved side. The wins will come, there's no doubt about it, just have to wait and be patient for a side that's still, in a way, gelling together!

Of course I am angry....

for godsake Judd + Stevens + Murhpy + Fev all absolutely dominated and we still lost to an average side.

If Brett Ratten doesn't start working on a more accountable game plan I am going to neck myself.

We lost a game we should have won, pure and simple.

If you had said before the game that Judd would be close to BOG with 32 touches, Stevens would find some form, Fev would kick 8, Jammo would hold Lloyd well, and our midfield would smash the opposition in clearances (including during a 7 goal burst in the third quarter), most would say that would add up to a win.

Problem was, when the game was there for the taking, we failed to get it done. Players had some horrific turnovers at crucial moments, exeplified by the turnover with a minute left in the third quarter that led to 2 Essendon goals and let them back into the match. We gave away several goals to undisciplined acts; 3 50-metre penalties, Bower's tackle in the last quarter, the free kick before the first bounce. And in a couple of other crucial moments, players fumbled or just failed to tackle, chase or do the hard yards. On the other hand, Essendon were outplayed for most of the game, yet somehow won. Fletcher was incredible; made 2 or 3 HUGE plays that turned the game. They out-tackled us, and made us pay for our mistakes.

I felt there wasn't much use getting angry after last weeks loss. St Kilda were just too good on the day. But when your team dominates the game and loses, surely that IS worth getting angry about. Good teams make the most of their opportunities. Bad teams focus on the positives.

On the other hand, I don't think its quite time to be calling for sackings etc...

One of the commentators on the ABC summed it up when he said Carlton has too many selfish players, particulalry in the mid-field. They prefer to try and do the glory stuff to get their head on the highlight reel rather than the team-orientated things.

Highlighted Jordan Russels snap at goal in the last quarter when he should have given it off to Stevens.

Think it might have been Jarrad Molloy. Very good colour commentator.

The most frustrating aspect of Sat night was how we "dominated" the 3rd quarter. In general play yes, on the scoreboard NO!

9 goals to 6 is hardly reward for effort. If it had been 9 goals to 3 or 4 (max) then, yes. Not 6! Our boys love running one way, not so much the other

We lost. Again. To Essendon. - 3 good reasons to be upset.

But I do take on board the orginal posters point and yes we are getting better, just way to slowly for my liking.

I was happy with improved effort and more efficient play through the midfield particularily at the stoppages.

Of course I was disappointed to lose especially when we had the game for the taking. We coughed up 2 goals before 3 quarter time, 1 through a terrible kick from Russell that sat Bannister under teh ball and teh second when teher was about 15 seconds to go at a boundry throw-in and we couldnt lock teh ball in.

We also gifted a goal before the first bounce with a stupid off the ball free by Scotland on Monfries. Its the second year in a row he has given a stupid off the ball to Monfries, he gave one away last year in the goal square at the Punt Road end. What a fool.

Other little silly things like Murph's chip kick that Fletch jumped to smother but marked that resulted in a Lovett goal up the city end. Unlucky but thats something that we seem to do more often than not.

Bloody Oath I am freakin angry!

Carlton dominated Essendon all over the gound and if not for the ridiculous amount of bullshit free kicks essendon were given we would have definately won that game easily,

Fevola did everything every carlton supporter has asked of him, he stood his ground in the marking contests and got absolutely nothing for hands in the back, chopping of the arms etc. etc., whereas Matthew "Piss-ant" Lloyd did everything he could to force bullshit free kicks, The amount of dives he took should be enough to send him to the bejing friggin olympics!

Saturday night was the most ridiculously umpired game I have ever attended,

Carlton deserved to win that game Hands down!

Agree 100% with the OP.

That was the best we've played in ages, and is a sign of things to come. At least now we have reason for HOPE.

Yes the umps didn't help. Yes we gave up some goals that we shouldn't have. Yes a bit of player inexperience hurt us at times. These are not things that will trouble us every week though - whereas the past lack of sheer player talent did.

Sat night was a big step forward - make no mistake.

That post is so spot on it's not funny. You guys led the whole way but couldn't put the last nail in. Had you held us late in the 3rd you probably would have cruised through the 4th.

Just for those points I'd love to see Carrazzo and Houlihan dropped, these guys are fantastic at times. Too often though they refuse to chase and tackle send them to the bullants and show them their spots are to be earned every week.

Jordan Russell and his ridiculous decision making (kicking the ball over his shoulder resulting in a turn over and costing us a goal at a crucial moment).

Andrew Carrazzo and his shocking disposal.

Houlihan and his inabillity to keep his feet in a tackle and do anything that is remotely 'tough'

are three reasons why we should be dissapointed.

Carrazzo and Houlihan need to be dropped in order to learn that we are not the same team as last year - and that they is no longer 'indispensible' and have to earn a game in this new Carlton side.

i think the only part of Sat night that i am unhappy about is how inability to hold the ball in the backline

many times we are too scared to hold the ball for fear of getting caught holding the ball by the umpire

Bower did this once and a few other player at times around the defensive area which resulted in some sort of goal or score upon us

main problem is the rules, who would want to be a backman in this game, you cant hold the ball for fear of getting caught nor can u touch a player for fear of a free kick resulting in a goal

We would have saved probably 3 or 4 goals on sat if we were smarter with this!!

Though the Russell snap was stupid, Stevo crack the shets with him straight after, very deserving....though we probably still would have lost by a goal after that, not enough time left i dont think!!!

Sums up our one of our big areas of concern fairly well. :thumbsu:
