watching the REAL contenders run around in recent weeks only underlines our original plan in snowballing this core of talented youth we have by adding more youngsters. Imagine if we can add 2 more kids of cotch and rances callibre to this squad and FJ can snaffle another connors type from deep in the draft. That's the ONLY way we will assert ourselves as genuine contenders. If getting rid of Miller and the back room stoush does nothing more than mean we remain on track with our original plan then 2008 will indeed be the springboard..... Take a back seat in trade week, give the boyz a couple of chips in Polo, King, casserely to play with...But, FFS, leave our R1 & 2 pix out of the frame:thumbsu:

spot on champ .. :thumbsu: first 2 picks .. dont trade any of our picks .. lets trade away a few players for picks i say !!

i totally agree with you keeping our early picks is the only way to go.

Within reason of course, but about time a thread like this was made - threads saying 'bid for player X' are a little too numerous and usually unfounded.

Breed our own. :thumbsu:

The only exception is if it gets us Warnock. He's 21 and can grow with the team. I would do pick 8 + Polo for Warnock + 21. Otherwise try and get pick 21 by offering Freo a couple of players.

Not it doesn't , this is exactly what i'm afraid of, trading away our R1 pick for a fella that has performed half as well as Patto...NO THANKS:eek:...Thats what you call one step forward, 3 steps back

Keep the high picks if we can but use them to nab an absolute superstar like Kerr if he is right for our club. Go nuts in all other trades to get 23-30 decent regular 1st graders that will increase our match day depth and win us more games. We missed the top 8 by 1 and a half games this year guys. Not keen to do it again. We need to play regular finals football from 2009 on FULL STOP.

try 1/2 a game...8th only had 12 wins

Better yet BJ, let them go to the table without offering a thing, just check and wait for others to bet first. I reckon that is the way to go, let opposition clubs come to us and say we're interested in player X,Y or Z what will it take to get them. If we go to other clubs like we did last year and say we want a late first round pick for player X,Y or Z we lose the upper hand at the table.

I agree Bo (and Realistic).
If a team offers something good for Schulz, King, Polo or any other fringe player, then accept the pick/player (if theyre gonna become a regular for us, otherwise only draft picks), then by all means take it, but don't offer our draft picks to grab a "superstar" or "superstar in the making" etc.
If we can grab for example Ziebell and Cornelius (unlikely on both) then it would be even better than having Kerr. Plus for Kerr we will have lost even more than our first two picks. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

This is what happens when we trade away picks.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the prosecution rests...

Quite an illustrious roll-call.

FB: J.Blumfield M.Graham J.Rombotis
HB: T.Fleming S.Wigney, R.Hilton (traded for Wojinski)
C: S.Sziller, C.Biddiscombe A.Houlihan
HF: P.Hudson A.James C.Sampson
FF: A. Blurton K.Kingsley A. Blurton
R: T.Knobel, C.King, B.Nicholls

Some we gave up a lot, some very little...but pin this up on the wall for trade week Mr Cameron.

...Something like that...
Cos we bred Brown, Johnson, Simmonds and Polak from the draft :p

But I agree with the sentiment.

All the bolded players we definitely DRAFTED, might have been the case with a few others too. And you named Blurton twice. And King we got with pick 3 (Fiora) in exchange for McKee and pick 7.

Warnock (206cm) will be a dominant ruckman. Patto (198) will always be an honest trier.

not sure there's a compelling case for that., think I recall the drums beating about that fella from Bris last year Cameron wood that went to collingwood, yeah he really went to another level:rolleyes:

The role of ruckmen are changing rapidly with four boundary umpires. Likelihood is that they are going to get to far fewer contests with the rapidly increasing pace of the game as well, so we've gotta be reluctant to trade early picks for rucks.

Difficult to argue that they impact the game the way they used to.
If we insist on trading early picks, gun midfielders and KPP's are preferred.

No, it's my opinion, based on what I've seen of Warnock and my football knowledge. I love the way he moves, kicks and handles the ball at ground level. I love that I can envisage him putting meat on those bones and miles in those legs. I've barely seen Wood so am not in a position to comment on him, but Mark Blake at 23 is pretty much the youngest regular ruckman in the AFL. He's very good now but where was he two years ago? My opinion is that Warnock will be a very, very good ruckman. We need two of those if we are to challenge for a flag. That's why I want him.

But I agree with the sentiment.

I also agree with the sentiment, but add Leon Cameron, Greg Stafford, Mitch Morton and, dare I say it, Jordan McMahon to the 'pro' list.

Then take off the 6 guys richoattheddisco pointed out as low draft picks not trades, and add two more in Sziller and Fleming, and then add pre-season picks Wigney, Knobel and Sampson, and you're down to 6 bad trades.

Which you can then stack up against 8 good trades, and it doesn't look like such a bad option.

However, I agree that we should not trade this year.
