Double Headers?

Perhaps instead of playing interstate sides in Canberra for home games would double headers work? Obviously the issue for us and other smaller clubs is making a profit or at least not losing money. What if we could have a double header instead and share the gate and ground costs with say Geelong or the Bulldogs? Combined we get say 50k for the double header and ground costs theoretically should be pretty much the same as 1 game.

Games could be promoted as an us (vic teams) Vs them battles, perhaps played Saturday/ Saturday night. North Vs Port followed by Geelong Vs WC or something.

We get better value by not only seeing our team more, but also get a freeby game to watch. It could certainly create some extra interest in the public with us against them battles. Could be a 2-0 whitewash or a 1 all draw. I dare say they would also draw in neutral supporters who see outstanding value in the 2 for 1 deal.

Could it work?

Geelong play out of KP, so they would see no reason to get involved in this as they only play at TD against larger teams for home games.

Could maybe work with the Doggies, but are supporters of both sides willing to go to watch a game with the other side playing?

Would Roo fans watch the dogs play. Also you split the money in half, what if only 30K turn up to the Dome on the day? Thats 15K each, there were just over 16K at the dome yesterday, so kangas would of lost out.

Would need to be promoted really well, worth a crack. Would make for a great Sunday arvo. "The Sunday Footy Sesh"

It's a great idea. Melbourne V Freemantle and North V Port on the one day. It should do pretty well with fans from both sides attending and also bring in impartial footy fans as well who are just looking for some footy to watch.

Exactly, break even is around 25,000? So with 30,000 both clubs make a small profit rather than a loss. If it was promoted well and supporters of both clubs see the extra value in a cheap day out then perhaps we could draw 20,000 from each club plus 5-10k neutral value hunters. Turning the day into very good dollars for both clubs.

What about the sponsors, the goal posts and signs would need to be changed?

What about the Cheersquads???

It is worth having a shot at it, but take a lot of work if the Bulldogs and Kangaroos are up to it. If they could get 40K it would be a positive. Anything under that not sure if it is worth it.

Also what about the Dome accepting this with their precious surface.

You would need some kind of incentive to hope people stay for both games. Maybe Mazda could throw in a couple of Cars and LendLease throw in some cash or something. Draw some prizes at the end of each quarter, but you got to be in the ground to get your prize. Try make it more of an event then just a couple of Footy matches. Raise some money for a charity group or something.

ROOStar, would be worth telling the Kangas and Doggies about it!

Would be great to see a SOLD OUT double Header at the DOME for these two sides.

Another problem, would the DOME lose money, because the two games are being played on the one day?

Personally, if the "other" non North game was played BEFORE ours....................................sure, I'd check it out.

BUT........................if our game was on first and we had a loss, there'd be NO CHANCE of me sticking around. After a win..................................hhhhhmmmmmmmmm..........possibly!

No doubt there would be issues to over come, catering, seating, change rooms, sponsors ect. But I do think the ‘event’ could be huge, and a big plus for sponsors and the clubs.

It wouldnt really matter if people stuck around imo, it would be about people through the gate on the day. Sure the more that stick around the greater the atmosphere, but don’t see how it would affect the bottom line a great deal.

My first impression is, two smaller clubs thinking outside the square on how to build up games rather then coping the usual loss from these games each year.

For those of you who old enough to remember we did something like this in 1986 I think it was. It was a great idea but sadly not enough people even turned up then, but then again we were struggling along with Melbourne, Geelong , Bulldogs & Sydney were the other teams involved. Sydney was the only side who played in the finals that year out of these sides.

Someone else brought up about reserved seats, cheer squads, sponsors & the playing surface, i tend to agree these are the things that crossed my mind when I first saw this.
