Hawkins for me. Better over head and tougher. Browny might just shade him in the skill department although the difference is minimal.

And it has to be Sir Douglas, at this stage anyway. Douggie was a great player for 300 games, Browny while a great player has really only been an absolute top liner for 2 years. Douggies skills were just sublime, and the way he lifted n finals and in big games was awesome, he was absolute class. And I rate him this highly without even being old enough to see him at his best. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Browny ended up better, he has many of the same attributes as Sir Douglas, but theres along way to go

Brown has the potential to be better than Dougie. Dougie was a great player but could have been greater if he had lead a better lifestyle and wasn't so badly injury.

Dougie easilly. could beat opponents in the one on ones with ease, and was better in heavy traffic than Browny.

At this point in time, it would easily be Hawkins.

Brown is a brilliant player, but he still has a lot to achieve to be anywhere near Doug as a player, and contributor to the Bulldogs.

Firstly, consistently be in our top 5 players for 5+ consecutive years.

Be a major contributor in finals or BOG performances.

Play a least 200 games with the Dogs.

Win a Best and Fairest award.

Captain the side.

He has some way to go before he can be categorised in Doug's class.

Well guys, browny got my vote.

Why? Because:

When i started coming to the footy, there was always this little fellow called Dougie, who was an absolute champ, but he was half way through his career and the best of it, i had missed because i was to young.

Yet back in 1997 a young country boy with the long haired skatey look walked into whitten oval, we were all able to witness the start of his career and follow it through, and now as it is getting exciting, i believe this boy has alot of potential to go a long way with footy, and follow good old doggies footsteps to becoming the next captain of the bulldogs.

Dougie easily at this stage. As Knackers correctly pointed out Brown has some catching up to do.

Doug Hawkins streets ahead. I never realised just how good Hawk was until i watched the 92 season tape. The man was just brilliant.

Browny is a great player, but is only a 6 year player thus far, Hawk was 16 year player. Not even comparitable at the moment.

Hawkins - the more I thought about it the more I realised how far Browny still has to go. It surprised me but I couldn't find many areas where Hawkins wasn't well ahead.

Little fellow - Dougie? Taking on the likes of Dipper and Darren Millane?

As a neutral, I always admired the football brilliance of Doug Hawkins. The buffoonery in the media has tended to obscure how good a player he was. Strength, skill, pace and guts.

Dougie for me. He was a champion over the length of his career which was long. Producing high quality results year after year counts for a lot. Brown may get there but at this stage dougie has the runs on the board (which is a cricket not football analogy I know but you get what i mean)

Yeah, Dougie for me, too. The only area I think Brown would be ahead is goalkicking, and this is down to Hawkins playing in the center and half-back later on.

If anyone is in doubt, get a copy of the 1985 2nd Semi Final against North Melbourne.

I hope my young bloke doesn`t read this tonight, but for mine its the great man himself Sir Doug and IMO Browny has a fair bit of catching up to do. I do believe they have a hell of a lot in common though, both loveable larrikins and both possess/ed silky skills, but until Browny beats top flight opponents and turns games consistantly, its Dougie for me.
