G'day All, over the last two months we've been running a bidding game on the Essendon board:

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/list-management-game-2013.986469/

We're at the pointy end of the game now, the matchups.

Please consider the following criteria:

Criteria 1: Experience - is the team experienced enough to be ready to win premierships?

Criteria 2: Depth - if 5 star players have injuries, are there good back-ups?

Criteria 3: Quality - Brownlow medallists, Coleman medallists etc.

Criteria 4: Chemistry - Is the team full of Akers and Fevs?
Criteria 5: Mix – Is it a healthy list with coverage all over the ground?

Make your choice! Which of the two teams would you pick?

Why should I win? Well I counter that with, why shouldn't I?

Let's start in defence with the AA CHB in Ted Richards. Alongside him I hate the Merrett-Murray Medalist of 2012 in Joel Patfull, who will take the monster key forwards (well, the ones not already in my team). Harry Taylor, another All Australian will be the third defender in line, turning defence into attack with great intercept marking (only Jack Watts can challenge him in that regard). Suckling and Scotland will provide the run from defence and execute perfect +50m kicks regularly. Then there is some bloke called Fletcher who goes alright too. Depth is pretty good too, with Andrew Mackie on the bench, Michael Johnson able to fill in as well when needed, along with Thornton, Brown, McGuanne, Pears and Blake. Duigan as a sub will naturally slot in, allowing one of Scotland or Suckling some midfield freedom.

Midfield. That's where I'm a Viking. I have some great established midfield stars in Ablett, Cross and Thompson who boss the midfield, along with some young stars in Wellingham, Redden, Swallow, Magner, Howlett and Caddy. I also have some handy players in Harvey, Thomas, Sidebottom and Davey who can help in the rotations. My Ruck division is second to none (sorry eth-dog) with Naitanui, Cox and Jamar.

Forwards. My triple threat forwards line begins is centered around JJ Kennedy, Tex Walker and Dean Cox (who will rotate with Nic Nat) If they don't mark it (unlikely), then Harvey, Thomas, Sidebottom will all be there to clean up the mess, and all have a great nose for goal. With backups like Davey, Monfries, Stewart, Papparone and Kosi.

This squad includes 24 All Australian Awards among other prestigious awards, including Brownlow Medals and club B&F's. This squad has a great mix of experience (both in finals and games played) and youth. It includes arguably the best player in the world, surrounded by a strong midfield core and great defence and attack.

So I ask again. Why shouldn't I win?

Backline: A strong defensive 6, I feel that this group of players provide both the ability to shut-down even the best forward line, while offering an offence flair to spark a quick and decisive counter-attack.

Daniel Merrett and Nathan Bock are my two KPD's, both senior players with years of experience and the ability to dominate their opponents in all facets. Don't be fooled into thinking Bock is sub-par, he remains one of, if not, the best dedicated CHB in the league. These two players also have the capability to play in the forward line if the situation requires it, and have the ability to do it well.

Daniel Talia is my third man up, the rising star winner showed this year that he is more than able to take a KBD if required. Also provides the option to play on a quicker, leading forward should he be required.

Scott Thompson would be the man I would entrust to take on the opposition smaller forwards. A fantastic negator, he provides an even harder substance to this titanium-like defence.

Goddard and Murphy speak for themselves. Over the past decade, they have shown game after game how destructive they can be coming off the half back line. Quality ball use in ensured by these two, who also provide further leadership to a squad that is already rich in it. They all are able to play in different position, with Goddard able to slid into the midfield rotation and Murphy able to slot in to the HFF line if a player Fyfe is having a run on the ball.

Midfield: Quality everywhere. A starting centre square setup of Mumford, Hayes, Murphy and Watson will not be beaten in the clearances. Chuck in Brownlow Medalist Adam Cooney and live-wire David Zaharakis waiting on the wings to carry on the good work of the aforementioned clearance specialist and you have the makings of a phenomenal midfield.

But that's not all.

Nat Fyfe, Brendon Goddard, Shaun Burgoyne and Leigh Montagna are just waiting to get in on the action. When names such the above can't get a starting spot, you know that there is some serious talent in the middle. This rotation would be running all game, with the perfect mixture on matrix-like clearance work and laser-like delivery on the outside. Good luck beating this midfield.

Forward: The midfield maybe be orgasmic, but they are only as good as their forwards (ask Collingwood), and wow, doesn't this forward line deliver.

Featuring the best true CHF in the league in Nick Riewoldt, one the best full-forwards in the league Tom Hawkins, perhaps the best small forward in the league Eddie bets, arguably the best young KPP prospect in the league in Jeremy Cameron and one of the best specimens and third-talls in the league in Crameri, you have a highly potent forward line.

Oh, did I mention James Hird reincarnate, Nat Fyfe?

You may be able to stop one, maybe two if you're lucky. But the whole forward line?

I hate to tell you, there's only defence capable of giving it a red hot go. Unfortunately for everyone else, that's my defence.

Bench/Sub: Burgoyne, Priddis and Montagna, all players who would be a starting player in any other team. The fact that they start on the bench shows just how talented and deep this team runs.

For the sub, Leigh Matthews mk II should go alright...

Depth: Malceski, Mzungu, Watts, O'Brien, Wingard, Brown, Stokes... you get the idea. Quality replacements on every line.

How the best intercept marker in the league can't make the team, I'll never know. Such is the quality though he is able to suck down on the straw in his vodka Cruiser and sit back and wait for him yearly 3 Brownlow vote game against Essendon.

Verdict: My team is awesome. If you were considering voting for anyone else, then I have one simple reason not to...

"Don't kid yourself, voters. If these posters ever got the chance, they'd'd eat you and everyone you care about"
