Draft: Jack Ziebell

Seems to be the most versatile of the possibilities for pick 5 in that he can play tall (CHF) and short (midfield).

Would be a Knights sort of player with his versatility, but I'm not sure he's better than Hurley, Sidebottom or even Hartlett.

If I had to say who I wanted to pick up most with our first pick, it'd be this kid. He's just pure class when up and running. He's got a booming kick, good composure, superb skills, good overhead and can go forward and create a handy target. Won the best player in the series award against Ireland so he certainly oozes plenty of class.

he looks a good player but my concern is how much development/improvement in him does he have? the reason he's playing well at u/18 level is he's much bigger physically than the other kids - this won't last at afl level. in addition my query is what position will he ultimately play given his size?

of those discussed I would to say I have Hurley, Sidebottom and Hartlett ahead of him but in the end if the club thought he was the best then I wouldn't complain.

odd question

how old is he...i'm getting that he's 17 & 18 and its really confusing!!

is it just me or is there a little bit of james hird about him. he is very versatile, clearance king, can play big up forward and kick bags of goals. i could be very wrong though

Not just you Country_Boy_12, after reading a number of reviews and seeing a heap of footage of this kid play, the great JH springs to mind. A game breaker that can be thrown anywhere. Booming kick, one grab contested marking, can play as a dominate clearance midfielder or be a dominate marking forward. A bottom aged 17yo with core strength.
Without chucking the poor kid in the deep end with such a comparison, his style of play obviously suits our club and as far as I've heard, is an excellent communicator with leadership potential.
At pick 5 I hope the club has the opportunity to take Ziebell and snap him up.

He's one of the youngest in the draft sneeks in by weeks so yeah plenty of upside in him word has it from bushies has been playing injured since before the nationals saw he was strapped up like a muumy in the finals . Didnt do all at the draft camp as they stopped him so imagine when he's fit .Another couple of inches and he'd be a monster. My favorite this year.
Hard to tell where he's at in real terms with an injury but i rekon still 6-8 Just let him slide boys straight to us

He has Luke Hodge written all over him.

He has Luke Hodge written all over him.
That will come off with some warm water and eucalyptus oil. What is it with these champions of the game going around putting graffitti on young players lately? ;)

Anyone else getting the deja vu?

From this thread: "Is he a mid or a tall? Booming kick. Shades of Luke Hodge. Best player in the series in Ireland. Leadership potential."

Anyone read the Herald Sun today? Ziebell is named 5th, of the famous 5.

ESSENDON
Draft picks: 5, 23, 55, 67, 79

What it needs
Another class midfielder and a key position player with Mal Michael gone and Dustin Fletcher not far behind.

Midfield help could be the priority, with recruit Brent Prismall expected to take time returning from injury.

Perfect pick
JACK ZIEBELL (Murray Bushrangers)

Strong, well-balanced player who wins the ball and thrives on the physical stuff. Safe bet.

I am getting this feeling too. 188cm tall midfielder, who can go forward and kick goals. Has good skills, especially his kicking. And doesn't mind the rough stuff...if it comes to picking between Hartlett, Sidebottom or Yarran, I think DODO and crew will pick young Ziebell.

hurley is a backmen, thats the only job hurley would be better than ziebes at
sidebottom? he's played one freak game, getting wayyy too hyped up on bigfooty
hartlett could be a question mark, these too i rate fairly similar for mine... but if i had ur pick, id def take ziebes

i still think hartlett is the second best midfeilder in this years draft. if we are going for a midfeilder i would want us to go after him rather then ziebell, sidebottom etc. although ziebell would be my second choice
