hurley is a backmen, thats the only job hurley would be better than ziebes at
sidebottom? he's played one freak game, getting wayyy too hyped up on bigfooty
hartlett could be a question mark, these too i rate fairly similar for mine... but if i had ur pick, id def take ziebes

He played excellently all season from all reports. Read ant555's and foj1's draft profiles.

Well, congratulations. You have supplied a well thought out, unbiased, and rational addition to this thread, if only you were our head recruiter.

Hurley only better than Ziebell in defence... Why didn't anyone else think of that? Really...

speaking of sidebottom, according to the herald sun he's not going to be in the first round.

We are pretty spoilt for choice down back so adding Hurley might not be the best tack for the bombers in a crucial draft. Picking up Prismall then injecting Ziebell into the Midfield will give us great potency while the draft is pillaged by GC17 then WS.

Ziebell will be a great leader.

Go Bombers!!

How are we spoilt for choice down back?

The only established, long term defender we have is Ryder.

Fletcher is on his last legs, Pears is unproven and it's still unkown whether Hooker and Daniher will be forwards or backmen.

Ziebell or whoever isn't going to walk straight into out team and prove himself. Most drafted players (with a few rare and obvious exceptions) take at least a season, sometimes two, to fully solidify their place at the club and earn their place in the top 22 / 26

And it seems pointless to draft incase Pears or Myers or Hooker or Daniher or any one of the young defenders doesn't prove himself. I mean why would we have picked them in the first place, if we didn't think they were going to prove good enough?

Clearly I'm a passionate supporter of the "best available" theory and by all means if at pick 5 Ziebell is the best available then I'll be glad to see him at Windy Hill next season

I know you can't draft just in case someone fails to live up to expectations. However, the way I see it the only key backs we have at the moment are Ryder, Fletcher and Pears. From all reports Daniher played mostly as a forward as a junior and from the Bendigo reports it sounds like Hooker is much more comfortable in the forward line aswell. This leaves us with just two key backs for the future and that is most definitely not enough. What happens if one of them goes down with an injury?

I'm not saying we should definitely pick up Hurley or even a tall at pick five BTW. I just don't think we are "pretty spoilt for choice down back" as the original poster said.

Correct me if im wrong, but in the first training session Knights said Ryder, Pears and Daniher were our key backs?

I thought he said 'have potential to become key backs'. But they also have potential to become key forwards. Some would say more potential in the forward half.

Like I said, he can play key back. He can also play key forward. Up till now, he has shown more when playing forward.
